MORE ADVENTURES LIKE THIS PLEASE
On a very first visit to a place my digital camera hasn't been before I look for two things: a lot of the obvious and even more of the unexpected. There is a whole visualization taking place as my eye travels through features I wouldn't mind seeing day in day out. By using the lens cleverly, stopping at points my inner landscape aligns with, on this occasion I've met really good ones - distant land waking up to the milkiest fog I had a chance to witness while hiding from chilly winds with hot coffee and a toastie. In this village, without a doubt I could feel local. I guess I crave the kind of serenity that can only come from a desolate spot, the creamier sky the better. Unlike
my friend for whom every city noise matters. So we go beyond well traveled paths, we may sustain a bruise but never make it back the same way we took on. Ask my child, she's more into it than resonates with my mummy confidence. We dress for the unexpected - rain as we know comes in a lot of disguise. We're not afraid to ask too -- for directions and the best local snack (as long as we remain anonymous and not annoying). Should you wish to find yourself conquering another mountain, the next town or village, try this advice: queue where everyone else does - if there's a line, there is a purpose to it, eat here but order the drink elsewhere -- there is a possibility of a little dehydration on a really hot day but this way you visit two new spots on one occasion and will hardly wonder why you bothered. And be able to carry your life travel essentials so that you can still carry your child. Rarely happens these days but this advice keeps my backpacks slightly lighter.
It was chilly and windy here on the outskirts of the isle, our minds liked the extremes but the bodies weren't exceptionally prepared for it. I loved that too, the less pleasurable part of our trip and wouldn't even wanna try to change it one bit. Nothing turns out well when overly planned, weather forecast is usually more or less ignored when we're out and about, flowing through places. Me and my girl together, the perfect travel companion, brightest nail varnish spotter, sweetest cuddler. There just isn't an option to choose things to do on my own. Not in this lifetime, that's for sure.

This post made me want to go and travel!! I am hoping to go into the city soon and take photos...but not sure yet. My dream is to travel to Greece and meet family there and see the beautiful towns :D

DeleteBeautiful photos! I like what you said about looking for people in lines. One time, while visiting a coastal town in northern California, my husband and I spotted a line in front of this tiny building. They were all holding small pieces of paper and pencils. We decided to investigate and stumbled upon a clam chowder tasting event. The pieces of paper had a map of places all over town that were offering chowder for tasting and then you were to rate each one. It was such a fun way to explore the town, and tasty too! I enjoyed reading your post and hope you have many more exciting travels!

DeleteThose photos are amazing! The photos on my blog are awful! I wish I was better at taking good photographs. It looks like you had a wonderful time. If we travel, we always end up seeking water. Even in the amazing beauty of the Smokie Mountains, we spent most of our time in a valley so densely covered in tree canopy you couldn't see the Mountains, by a brook.

ReplyDeleteI love, love, LOVE, flying in airplanes. So ideally, anywhere I am going, I want to fly. But then once I land, my first thing is to experience the local food. That can be ANYTHING.
They have a hot dog that's good? Sure thing.
Cheese steak? You got it.
Some strange dish that would make someones stomach turn? Yeah for sure!
Also I am a big fan of the architecture of the areas, buildings, roads, any and everything that they build my eyes are usually glued to.

Love the pics! Makes my heart long for the ocean, my favorite place to be! Our favorite way of traveling is our Excursion with our trailer attached. We can drop anywhere, anytime. We have camped right on the beach. It is most wonderful! We love adventures.

DeleteI loved your pictures! I've always wanted to get into photography but I know nothing about it and I don't have the right equipment either. Your post inspired me to put it back on my goals/to-do list as something I NEED to do in the future when I can purchase the equipment. I love the ideas of capturing images that you'd want to see day after day, and visually exploring your surroundings to find something that connects with you.

DeleteVery cool!! I love how the weather came across in your pics so I'm glad you wouldn't have wanted to change it. It gives them a certain 'feel' that you just can't get from 'sunny and warm.' I also think it allows for better contrast with the brightness of your little girls coat and hat!

DeleteMy hubby is constantly scouting locations for the perfect pic wherever we go, and always looking for interesting angles to capture as well. I have learned to be extremely patient when he is "fishing" for a photo! Love the hot pink door in the last photo!

DeleteI love traveling. Though I'm one of those who loves traveling in the big cities, the craziness of it really helps me appreciate the serenity of those quiet, tranquil spots. When my husband and I traveled to Paris, we purposely stayed in an apartment outside of the touristy area so we could experience real life. There was no hiding our American-ness, but we were able to talk to people who weren't annoyed with constant tourism. We loved it. And it provided us with a way to find out about those out of the way, tranquil spots to visit. Thanks for bringing back the memories!

Gorgeous pictures and great ideas are garnered here. I never thought about standing in lines where there are lines. That is a great idea (if you don't mind standing in lines, lol)! The locals usually know what's good and so this will naturally show you where you should be if that's what you're looking for. I love the picture and they capture the "feeling" in the weather that day in such a beautiful way.

DeleteI love the solitude of the country to the hustle and bustle of the city. I traveled a lot when I was younger but I haven't as an adult. My oldest has Asperger's and he panics in new places even surrounded by familiar faces.

Some photos just turn out better than others - even of the same shot! :) My struggle now is photographing food. Sometimes it looks great and well...sometimes it does not. DeleteThese photos are beautiful! I love travelling with my husband and three girls. We took a trip a few months ago where we stopped at parks in different states. It was so much fun, even though some days were cold and rainy. We stopped to have a quick lunch from the cooler on the beach and walk on the pier. We love travelling to Disney World and then taking our time to soak in all the little details around us instead of hustling from one place to another.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! I often bring my camera (or my watercolor journal) and look for spots of beauty when I'm out. Mostly my camera when I'm with my kids (I still have some little ones), but paints when I'm just with my hubby. Whenever I travel, my paints come with me—they're a part of the travel experience for me.
