MORE ADVENTURES LIKE THIS PLEASE
On a very first visit to a place my digital camera hasn't been before I look for two things: a lot of the obvious and even more of the unexpected. There is a whole visualization taking place as my eye travels through features I wouldn't mind seeing day in day out. By using the lens cleverly, stopping at points my inner landscape aligns with, on this occasion I've met really good ones - distant land waking up to the milkiest fog I had a chance to witness while hiding from chilly winds with hot coffee and a toastie. In this village, without a doubt I could feel local. I guess I crave the kind of serenity that can only come from a desolate spot, the creamier sky the better. Unlike
my friend for whom every city noise matters. So we go beyond well traveled paths, we may sustain a bruise but never make it back the same way we took on. Ask my child, she's more into it than resonates with my mummy confidence. We dress for the unexpected - rain as we know comes in a lot of disguise. We're not afraid to ask too -- for directions and the best local snack (as long as we remain anonymous and not annoying). Should you wish to find yourself conquering another mountain, the next town or village, try this advice: queue where everyone else does - if there's a line, there is a purpose to it, eat here but order the drink elsewhere -- there is a possibility of a little dehydration on a really hot day but this way you visit two new spots on one occasion and will hardly wonder why you bothered. And be able to carry your life travel essentials so that you can still carry your child. Rarely happens these days but this advice keeps my backpacks slightly lighter.
It was chilly and windy here on the outskirts of the isle, our minds liked the extremes but the bodies weren't exceptionally prepared for it. I loved that too, the less pleasurable part of our trip and wouldn't even wanna try to change it one bit. Nothing turns out well when overly planned, weather forecast is usually more or less ignored when we're out and about, flowing through places. Me and my girl together, the perfect travel companion, brightest nail varnish spotter, sweetest cuddler. There just isn't an option to choose things to do on my own. Not in this lifetime, that's for sure.
What's your favourite way of traveling? If life's an adventure, what are you looking forward to when out and about? I hope today feels fresh and fabulous to you. x

This post made me want to go and travel!! I am hoping to go into the city soon and take photos...but not sure yet. My dream is to travel to Greece and meet family there and see the beautiful towns :D
ReplyDeleteIt seems like a great plan, Andi. I'd love to travel more, if we can arrange our lives so that we can still do things we like, putting more effort into organizing short getaways may be just the right thing to do. Good luck with your dream! x
DeleteBeautiful photos! I like what you said about looking for people in lines. One time, while visiting a coastal town in northern California, my husband and I spotted a line in front of this tiny building. They were all holding small pieces of paper and pencils. We decided to investigate and stumbled upon a clam chowder tasting event. The pieces of paper had a map of places all over town that were offering chowder for tasting and then you were to rate each one. It was such a fun way to explore the town, and tasty too! I enjoyed reading your post and hope you have many more exciting travels!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lynne. What a fantastic way of exploring the town! This is what I mean by saying I'm looking for the unexpected - having eyes open and being willing to see beyond well known paths makes my holiday like nothing else :)
DeleteThose photos are amazing! The photos on my blog are awful! I wish I was better at taking good photographs. It looks like you had a wonderful time. If we travel, we always end up seeking water. Even in the amazing beauty of the Smokie Mountains, we spent most of our time in a valley so densely covered in tree canopy you couldn't see the Mountains, by a brook.
ReplyDeleteThank you Amanda. I think I just had good light on that day but I still get so many bad photos it's embarrassing. There's something calming and exciting about water especially on not a sunniest day. :)
DeleteFantastic adventure, my girls. Nothing can stop you from exploring the world around. Very windy recently :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! I feel you though...I am ready for the sun and springtime weather.
ReplyDeleteYes and yes, Deb. Can someone please hide all those knits away?
DeleteYour pictures make me want to get out, jump on a plane, and begin traveling! haha I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, LOVE, flying in airplanes. So ideally, anywhere I am going, I want to fly. But then once I land, my first thing is to experience the local food. That can be ANYTHING.
They have a hot dog that's good? Sure thing.
Cheese steak? You got it.
Some strange dish that would make someones stomach turn? Yeah for sure!
Also I am a big fan of the architecture of the areas, buildings, roads, any and everything that they build my eyes are usually glued to.
Great post!
Wow, I've never seen anyone being so excited about flying :)
DeleteHaha, a meal that can make someone's stomach turn - I'm not sure I can do that but I applaud you for being curious and having lots of courage. Thank you for reading! :)
Love the pics! Makes my heart long for the ocean, my favorite place to be! Our favorite way of traveling is our Excursion with our trailer attached. We can drop anywhere, anytime. We have camped right on the beach. It is most wonderful! We love adventures.
ReplyDeleteWow, how fun traveling with your own trailer. This is the closest one can get to feel as local as it can be. Thank you for sharing, Kelly x
DeleteI loved your pictures! I've always wanted to get into photography but I know nothing about it and I don't have the right equipment either. Your post inspired me to put it back on my goals/to-do list as something I NEED to do in the future when I can purchase the equipment. I love the ideas of capturing images that you'd want to see day after day, and visually exploring your surroundings to find something that connects with you.
ReplyDeleteThis is exciting, I'm sure you'll love photographing Jenny. I wish you all the best x
DeleteVery cool!! I love how the weather came across in your pics so I'm glad you wouldn't have wanted to change it. It gives them a certain 'feel' that you just can't get from 'sunny and warm.' I also think it allows for better contrast with the brightness of your little girls coat and hat!
ReplyDeleteThank you :) I've always loved when weather surprised me in many ways as I'm not a sun-lover (well, just in reasonable amounts). And it complemented the romantic I carry in me so this day couldn't be more perfect.
DeleteBeautiful thoughts and photos! I usually try to attempt something new and challenging wherever I roam. It makes for some wonderful memories of where I was and what I overcame to face my fears and challenges...priceless memories! I cherish these far more than souvenirs!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, ladies! Souvenirs gather dust but memories offer a lifetime of great time. Have fun roaming x
DeleteI love to travel and take photographs. Your photos help keep that love alive. They also keep my creative juices flowing for the next time I get to travel in my area with a camera in tow let alone overseas where I would love to go again.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely impeccable photographs! I'm looking to grow in this area myself (I'm more of a wordsmith than a picture gal) and I'm very inspired after reading your wonderful post.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing with us! :)
Thank you, Melanie. x
DeleteYou have such a lovely way with words. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post because I love taking photos wherever I go – no matter how ordinary or crazy the subject might be. It must be a lot of fun to experience these adventures with your lil' girl – she is definitely learning so much that will help shape her own future travels and adventures. I love your photos…I can almost smell the air.
ReplyDeleteThank you Yona, I wouldn't be able to put it better - a trip is always more exciting when shared with someone. My little girl is definitely that person. x
DeleteMy hubby is constantly scouting locations for the perfect pic wherever we go, and always looking for interesting angles to capture as well. I have learned to be extremely patient when he is "fishing" for a photo! Love the hot pink door in the last photo!
ReplyDeleteTravel seems to always invoke inspiration. You've captured some wonderful moments with your family in a beautiful location. Well done. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! My favorite way to travel is by horse. There is something about riding that just melts all the worry and stress away.
ReplyDeleteI would love to try horse riding Tori - I was always fascinated by horses.
DeleteI think my goal list needs updating. x
I love to people watch! My husband and I make up stories about the people we see when we are out. I don't like to do much when it's raining, but somehow your pics make it seem romantic. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are just beautiful! I love the sea and would never grow tired of it. My favorite way to travel is by car with the option to make lots of stops along the way. I love to travel with my husband or with my sisters.
ReplyDeleteYes and yes all the way, Elaine - making lots of stops along the way to explore at my own pace. I'm hopping into your car right now! :)
DeleteYour photos showed some beautiful scenery. I think that it's a place I'd love to visit though I didn't catch the name of it reading the post. It's nice that you can travel with your daughter! Oh and I love the bubblegum pink slicker. :)
ReplyDeleteLyme Regis is the name of the town, Daphne. I wonder how it looks in the dazzling sun and I hope to get the answer pretty soon ;)
DeleteI love the pictures and your daughter's pink coat.
ReplyDeleteI love it when we get all of the children in the van and just drive. Just go for a day trip and let it unfold before us.
Love the photos and your writing style! I'd love to spend a day out and about just to enjoy the scenery. I prefer Spring though, so hopefully sometime soon. :) Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun trip! I have always wanted to travel! You are creating so many precious memories for you and your daughter! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI just love all your photos! You are very talented! Photos are so important to preserving our memories, sometimes you can not remember something until you see a photo and then it will come rushing back. You and your daugher will cherish these photos and the memories they bring. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you and thank you for stopping by :)
DeleteI love traveling. Though I'm one of those who loves traveling in the big cities, the craziness of it really helps me appreciate the serenity of those quiet, tranquil spots. When my husband and I traveled to Paris, we purposely stayed in an apartment outside of the touristy area so we could experience real life. There was no hiding our American-ness, but we were able to talk to people who weren't annoyed with constant tourism. We loved it. And it provided us with a way to find out about those out of the way, tranquil spots to visit. Thanks for bringing back the memories!
ReplyDeleteI'm more into invading quieter areas Jennifer but I love traveling to big cities too. The vibe is different but still exciting. Thank you for your comment :)
DeleteOh my goodness! These pictures are so gorgeous! Where are you from? I love to travel, and cannot wait to do so with my baby boy. You have such a beautiful voice in your writing. You captured my emotions while traveling - especially being anonymous but not annoying ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jenn. Those photographs capture English seaside I've been in love with as far as I remember. I'm happy you like them and what complements them in writing :)
DeleteGoodness, so much lovely in this post. Your little one is Beautiful. Your way of looking around a new place, inspiring. "So we go beyond well traveled paths, we may sustain a bruise but never make it back the same way we took on." Yes Yes! I may quote you to my daughters via my white board next week.
ReplyDeleteHaha, that's a good idea minus the bruising bit but sometimes is unavoidable.
DeleteHave a great day, Michelle xx
Gorgeous pictures and great ideas are garnered here. I never thought about standing in lines where there are lines. That is a great idea (if you don't mind standing in lines, lol)! The locals usually know what's good and so this will naturally show you where you should be if that's what you're looking for. I love the picture and they capture the "feeling" in the weather that day in such a beautiful way.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I was always more into invading quieter areas especially on less then perfect days. It feels like the place left for us exclusively. And the views! Unbeatable. x
DeleteI love your pictures!! Seeing this definitely makes me want to get out and explore the world. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to travel much. I finished my undergrad, went straight in to get my masters, and now that I'm done with school, my hubby started up again. Would love to travel when he's done before we start a family!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your dream of traveling, Rachel. It's even more fun to do this as a family, making memories together is what we're here for :) xx
DeleteI love the solitude of the country to the hustle and bustle of the city. I traveled a lot when I was younger but I haven't as an adult. My oldest has Asperger's and he panics in new places even surrounded by familiar faces.
ReplyDeleteEli, what a lovely written post with beautiful photos! I have always been interested in photography (took classes in school) and my husband is as well. Some photos just turn out better than others - even of the same shot! :) My struggle now is photographing food. Sometimes it looks great and well...sometimes it does not. I look forward to reading more on here. ~Adrienne
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely words, Adrienne. Yes, photographing is not easy but I think all that enthusiasm will always win and show in photos no matter if they can score anything compared to professional photo shoots. I'm still pretty much a beginner but will never put my camera down... for long. x
DeleteThese photos are beautiful! I love travelling with my husband and three girls. We took a trip a few months ago where we stopped at parks in different states. It was so much fun, even though some days were cold and rainy. We stopped to have a quick lunch from the cooler on the beach and walk on the pier. We love travelling to Disney World and then taking our time to soak in all the little details around us instead of hustling from one place to another.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! I often bring my camera (or my watercolor journal) and look for spots of beauty when I'm out. Mostly my camera when I'm with my kids (I still have some little ones), but paints when I'm just with my hubby. Whenever I travel, my paints come with me—they're a part of the travel experience for me.
ReplyDeleteThat's fantastic and so original - I always stop to watch people painting the surroundings. Thank you for visiting x
DeleteYou must be on the other side of the pond from us, as those pictures are absolutely gorgeous. I will be traveling to the east coast of the US this summer with my friend who is from Australia, I can't wait, as road trips can be the best!
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous beach shots! You're a very talented photographer! Spring is on my brain too, but that's because the weather has been SO warm this week--high's over 75 almost every day!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carla!
DeleteWhat beautiful photos! I especially love the stained glass numbers over the door and the seawalk. I love local trave, but when I'm traveling out & about my husband and I love to explore. I pick up all those tourist pamphelets and pick a few things that look interesting.
ReplyDeleteNice- like the pink
