║today my way║

Almost is the key word here. Because it does exist although you could only use three bullet points to describe it - wash, scrub and moisturize. It's not that I don't want to commit to a full ritual of applying each and every lotion, oil and cream to a thirsty skin, I'm just not a beauty routine material exactly following directions. Essentially not now and I do not regret it. Partly, after discovering a family of freckles settling comfortably on the apples of my cheeks and all the way up under eyes, not great news.

I call my routine minimal but regular and they're another key words to note. As long as it's zero time consuming and all my essentials are at reach, I'm in the game. Dim-light friendly products that go out with me, stress with me and eventually ecstatically part with me at the end of the day are just a few and never rapidly changing - light moisturizer, foundation, concealer as a must, dab of brown eyeshadow, mascara and a pink blush. Lipstick may appear if found in the drawer. It all comes off before I go to bed, no compromises on this. Fresh, washed and creamed complexion has no substitute and I'm so glad mine is still a priority although slightly neglected during those high in hormone rushing days of pregnancy, but what's done is done and I surely like me some freckles from time to time. Also - and this is a big game changer for me - I am not a sun lover. Yes, sun does excite me but I try not to tan purposefully so the damage is not yet too great to worry about in advance. Hats on then, girls.

Nails, those are my major love affair. When fully capable of reaching my own toes I excitedly try new trends and colours, share ideas with my nailart-crazy friend and get on with daily tasks. No special occasion is needed to actively decorate them, good mood and a well brewed coffee are enough to convince me to a pattern I've only just liked on Pinterest.

These days as I am done with my hospital bag, washed baby clothes and took every step imaginable to have everything zipped up and ready I knew there would be tasks patience and my husband's understanding I will call for. You do realize I have zero control over my lower parts therefore I rely entirely on these two beloved people in order to survive. They do a great job as you can see. I'm hoping to expand some of my beauty rituals and have an easy, requiring very little thought regimen soon especially in styling my hair which is a completely embarrassing topic at the mo. It can take a while so I'd love your suggestions. x

OK here. This is not going to do much with nails, it will be about TV. A little bit of both. Those two are a match made in a sweet heaven of my living room as they merge and overlap each other beautifully. When my feet meet nicely beaten up cushion and everything what's handy while occupying the sofa stretches just as far as one's forearm - bottles of nail varnish and a remote control are the things not to mess around with but appreciate their silent existence for once in a lifetime and expect only the grand results (as if one can with only the basic channels, so over to you Sally Hansen and essie). It all started back in the caroling season when Kevin Alone in New York and The Holiday literally glued me to an old-fahsioned check blanket wrapped around my swelling feet. It was appropriate then but I keep telling myself that with as little creative input as it requires, I'm all for it until the due date. Or suppose I think about it more than anyone really should? ;) No, I really enjoy it too! Series after series chewed down still hot and mesmerizing - And Then There Were None, Dickensian, War and Peace - version of 2016, I can give you my whole sofa schedule right this very minute. Nail patterns included on request. x

My nails grow at the alarming speed, exciting and overwhelming it is when it has never been so. But I will take it, decorate nicely and put the gloves away. As for the decorating studs they are one of my favourite toys when it comes to bringing the cuticles alive. No glue or any adhesive required as long as they are attached before the nail varnish has dried out and only a layer or two of base coat is needed. I'm planning to get busy with my nails in the coming weeks, I'll maybe even document the process here. Who knows... x

Her hair would always give me emotions. Naturally curly and luminous had tendency to fizz and stick out, break on ends while still being soft and thick. As I didn't have experience with hair other than mine and the perfection is still yet to achieve, this journey has been nothing short of fascinating. Given her scalp to kiss, bury my face in, I was handed full responsibility over its each follicle. Between washes and occasional conditioning sessions it needed all the affection I was there to give. And trimming. Started early on and continued until Rapunzel came along followed by Elsa in natural shade of nylon. Scissors were banned, hair elastics had hard time sticking around. But as we know some things are unavoidable and only right attitude can save us from occasional meltdowns so one afternoon we sat down and discussed the options. Nothing too drastic and unfamiliar, nothing overly routine-changing for most days. Nadia was kind enough to spare a minute and sit through the photos taken to document the process of trimming her locks which turned out better than we anticipated (the trimming not the sitting). Since a tiny pea that she was, her hair had tendency to grow in layers and I wanted to keep it that way or as more like it as doable.

hair-cut-tutorial-four-easy-steps-trim-your-hair-todaymywayblog

Soooo in four easy steps... after washing (1) and combing (2) wet hair, tie it reasonably tight in a ponytail so that it hangs to the front (3). Gently loosen it by pulling the elastic down and choose the length that you want to achieve (4). Using sharp scissors (very important as you don't want to mess the cut by trimming extra inches here and there and then some more) make one, confident cut. Steady hand and good posture is essential. And it's done and voila and you've just created volume by simply doing nothing extraordinary. It felt great! Accomplishing this special assignment gave me thrills and looking back on it I'm glad that we did.

And here are some behind the scene photos for your viewing pleasure. As a disclaimer nobody got hurt playing with the scissors used in photos below. Completely safe and harmless no matter how ridiculously big and striking they may look. Made of pure cardboard paper and coloured lovingly with non-toxic crayons. Used with care. Happy end of summer, friends!

girl-having-her-nails-painted-toddler-pampering-todaymywayblog
toddler-painting-nails-professional-session-todaymywayblog

It's been an intense year for us around here -- in terms of mind workouts and commuting we haven't been short of a challenge to say the least. But since the school is over and long mornings are back (just for a short while but oh so needed) we can't complain as the struggle with getting to school and back is well and truly forgotten. We'll only get up before nine if we absolutely must. If the sky is more than inviting (hair washed or not), you'd look for hours to find us indoors.

The day the school closed its gates was like a festival of emotions - there were tears of leaving the overstuffed with posters of carefully practiced words classroom and the teacher behind, informal goodbyes and promises of many playdates, excitement at knowing we were soon off on a long road trip to Poland. And before we knew it, a pampering session was not only truly enjoyable but so child-friendly both of us thought we could only dream of. So into it we were I may include it into our monthly routine. You know, I'm joking, right? I wanted to start a tradition of doing something unusual on the last day of school, chocolate ice cream included or not, something just for us girls that will be long remembered. Nails are pretty important in our household and since Nadia was a barely walking tot, she took on the biting habit. It worried me but we never made a big deal out of it neither tried to make it a quick fix. I believe it has had an emotional foundation so it took her nearly five years to start growing her nails and enjoying having them decorated. It was a hit. She sat through it like a big girl only slightly overwhelmed by the abundance of colourful bottles full of glitter and nail varnish, middle aged women smiling at her and asking if she's taking part in a beauty pageant. She is a girly girl (maybe in slight need of a favourite colour shift, no one can handle this amount of bubblegum pink), likes her lipstick and wears her hair loose but she can also be as not into it as you can imagine. Just give her a scooter or skipping rope and nothing else matters much.

How has this year flown by, I am first to make a saucer eyes at! How she warmed up to each day commenced with a short bus ride and long day alone with letters, numbers and her peers continuously on her side. With all sorts of weather and different load in her backpack. Home learning ideas in combinations of useful and impractical, sudden realizations at how things should work without my help and finding answers quick enough to have time for using more paper than an average five year old. Almost six, mentioning her birthday party needs on ongoing basis. This school year was frantic as one would (wouldn't) expect it to be, with some chaos in between as we adjusted to life on the run. And in a short while Year One will be all that is to talk about or the birthday party or both. Way too many choices about how to turn the day around. Nothing short of exciting. Just a readiness to learn and play.

nails-daisy-galore-summer-nails-dotting-tool-todaymyway.com

Before I met my friend I didn't know my nails existed. They were useful for opening plastic carrier bags or for tasks not appropriate to be discussed here openly, yet it didn't occur to me to be kinder to them and paint something else than overrated red or overused beige. To add some spark and call it a day, use the tools I once overlooked, bring fun to my cuticles. Duh. It's a personal preference to stay in a majority. My friend was wild with her designs promoting craziest colours and styles imaginable taking me through the process of each pattern and shape with patience and a medium sized dotting tool (similar to the one shown below). So my collection of nail varnish grew and my brain cells realized their mistake. Since then my nails are kind of a mood-booster -- painted, dotted and loved. With the nail decorations being so cheap these days there is simply no excuse to be a one-tone girl anymore. Explore, learn, be curious and only invest in strengthening polish removers. Partially inspired by everything around I'm on a mission to healthy happy nails. Just don't tell my husband how long it takes to finish one hand.

For this particular design - paint your nails neutral colour leaving an odd one gold for the studs attached being more in sync. Using a dotting tool create little daisies with a golden stud affixed in the middle. Apply clear varnish (and lots of it especially where the studs are to glue them in). Look forward to doing it even more. x

My skin is on a fruit diet, mostly exotic, oddly shaped and named fruit I wouldn't mind blending with almond milk and raisins. And only one brand is continually determined to provide the vitamins it needs entwining with fragrance only Mother Nature could come up with in all her feminine glory. The Body Shop has served me on vacation and in my own bathroom, sending newsletters through my inbox of what to drool over next season or just what to indulge in without occasion, without an event or outing in mind. My personal favorites change proportionally to my skin demands and the brand's marketing campaigns bu the olives and grapefruit fragranced pots need not disappear from under the sink shelf or it will be too much stress to take on an empty stomach. I need that kind of relationship with my day to day essentials that no questions are asked and no amount of ingredients is talked over.

So today you have the opportunity to treat your skin to freshly picked peach and pink grapefruit essences. All organic, fair trade and not tested on animals. When my nails aren't broken, split or ridiculously short I quite like them. So that I even paint them and soak in revitalizing liquid. It's a rarity as I wash hands a lot and use disposable gloves at work so it's not easy to maintain healthy and flawless claws. When it happens I'm pleased with the effect of at least two hour session so thankfully it's only repeated occasionally. With this particular design, mini beads were placed tightly next to each other formatting a chain. I used golden ones on my left hand and played with blue ones on the other. Then I added a round golden stud to imitate a pendant and voila! I'm eager to try it again on different colored background -- black or red maybe? Sounds like a lot of fun out of two hours of my life.

P.S. I don't glue any studs or beads to my nails relying heavily on two to three layers of invisible varnish keeping them in place but I'm happy to hear if you have experience with any kinds of adhesive. Are they healthy, easily removable? Smell favourably? Do share and half of this household will be excited.

Happy weekend, friends! x

beauty uniform, beauty routine, today my way blog, make up
I thought I'd share some of my everyday rituals and tell you more about that fringe I felt inspired enough to sport it. Enjoy and let me know your tips! x

What makeup do you wear?
I wear tested products over and over again but quite often splurge on new items that vow to add more glow to my appearance. I don't leave house without a blusher which I apply on the tip of my nose as well for more girlie look. For the eyes I am using a smudge of brown eyeshadow paired with Benefit's They're Real black mascara and just recently brown Essence eye pencil. Sometimes I line my eyes with a liquid liner, most probably to achieve an evening look. I'm not a lipstick girl but just recently have discovered its miraculous influence on my mood so I usually bring color to my lips with pink shade as seen above. When I’m going out, I’ll wear a light foundation with SPF and some concealer.

Do you have any secret little tricks that make you feel great?
Feeling put together, with a light make up and nicely done hair I feel quite great so the days I skip applying colour to my face I'd rather stay indoors and stop confusing people. I love having my nails done, sometimes just a pale beige layer can do wonders, more artful creations are my definite pick me up.

What's your night time routine?
I don't really have routine as such, it mostly depends on my general mood that day or the activities we enjoyed but I love to catch up on some magazines curled up on the sofa while my daughter and husband kill those bad guys on x-box. On the contrary my beauty routine is pretty regimental - I always cleanse before going to bed, put a night cream on before peeling those dead cells off regularly. I mix my products for that purpose - if the cream is more on the expensive side, my peeling happens to get produced in my own kitchen (a mix of  honey, lemon juice and sugar).

What's your stance on bath vs. shower?
I enjoy not complicated showers in the morning but adore occasional baths, especially when the days are shorter, colder and more bath-encouraging.

beauty uniform, sunburn, pale and happy, today my way blog, make up
►►► Sometimes I do forget to re-apply that flipping sunscreen and end up like a nicely cooked lobster.
How do you take care of your hair?
That's funny! My hair routine is pretty non-existent, I'm not really a great hair stylist so I usually follow its lead - wash when it's needed, condition when I remember to. However since cutting my bangs just a few weeks ago, more thought goes into the process of keeping them looking good. I use some heat-protecting products, flat iron to keep them straight yet a little rounded. I rarely wear my hair down, does it say something about my personality too?

Do you eat any foods that make you feel great?
I believe that certain food can make you feel great and as an occasional snack they shouldn't be avoided. Having said that I could drink vegan peanut butter banana smoothie as there's no tomorrow but I stick to times when my bananas get little too ripe and blend them excitedly for my snack.

beauty uniform, beauty routine, today my way blog, make up
What do you pack when you travel?
Pretty much the same products I have stacked in my bathroom. Why would I avoid something I desperately need on hourly basis?

Do you have a signature scent?
Yes and no. I like to change my scents, try some masculine fragrances (Damian's Hermes small dose does more than a full bottle of floral magnificence) yet if I like it I'll stick to it for a while and come back to it some time later on. In my early twenties my mum gifted me with an Avon's Passion Dance for my birthday and I loved it ever since (it's still on the market!). I was loyal to Be Delicious DKNY and Irresistible Givenchy for a while but now I just want to smell like as many beautiful things as I can!

Does Damian have a favourite look of yours?
Yes and he would force it on me if he could! He'd love me to wear my hair down a lot more and stop using too much hair spray as it can look too sleek for his liking. He's not a fan of lipsticks as they're not that kissable. For the overall look, dress showing curves and enhancing obvious roundness would please his eyes so occasionally he is for a treat.

Do you have an overall beauty philosophy?
There are things I will never skip using like SPF's, eye pencils, experiment with new colours and products but generally I don't freak out over aging process or minor skin imperfections. I may be concerned about too much sun exposure but that's about it.

argan oil, beauty, little-support-needed-todaymyway.com

I will try to impress you and show you my new challenge. Actually I'm more for impressing my post-winter body that asks for more than just a simple routine and turning towards argan oil seems exactly right. I am an oil girl, anything of a dense texture, easy to hate after application... just pass it along, please. I may not be touchable for like forever but I'm nothing short of ecstatic when a golden syrup is running down those freckles and beauty spots. This summer I have slightly neglected my sensitive, easily irritated by the environment skin and giving it some extra attention and love each day will have to fit around other more or less consistently practiced routines. I'm especially excited for the hair and body oil that promises more than just boosting my mood with its ridiculously amazing scent. The Body Shop recommends the whole ritual of golden radiance you can see here, I may try to squeeze it all in less than a quarter of an hour definitely reporting back if the whole bunch has been as effective as it is declared by the brand. It's not a sponsored post in any way, only my body's yearning for some moisture and less visible imperfections and the brand has been my personal favourite for a while (organic, fair trade, cruelty free, not to mention the fabulousness to the skin), so it made sense to include it in a few of my favourite lonesome activities that happen sporadically in the busiest seasons (and nothing beats a lot of golden syrup running down those freckles, ya know).

Anyway my friends, our life has gotten so busy I can barely take a breath without doing thousand other things at the same time. Summer came and went, we're into exciting new projects if the pair of scissors has been involved or not and I've stuffed myself silly with future posts I am so happy to share with you. There's also an exciting giveaway creeping slowly no matter if you're oil girls or lighter texture seeking gals. I will please both.
Have a great week, peeps! xx

Wearing Rimmel Rouge a Levres Rossetto in Diva Red

As you probably know by now I have this thing for eye enhancers, directly speaking: mascaras, eyeliners, cheap or fancy eye shadows. But lipstick? A Cinderella of my beauty bag, neglected, pushed and shoved. But sometimes my glamorous side takes over and comes out in frivolous amounts of glossy. Or matte. This summer I've splurged on five different shades not steering away too much from a girly pink because if you're just starting up, don't back off of what works. Sooo the devil red... suddenly my features came alive! I loved it, especially when paired with denim jeans, nice pair of heels and a high ponytail. Am I getting too carried away?

Wearing Body Shop Colour Crush Shine in Fuchsia Flirt (No 15)
One of the favourites - however subtle that may look it feels way more sumptuous in person and adds an extra spot of warmth to my skin. With a lot more blusher on my cheeks I'd feel 25 again!

new arrivals, glamour, make up
Wearing MAC Lustre in Syrup
Not too sure at first about this one, I nervously agreed to have it applied at the store - darker than natural colour of my lips immediately put them more in focus. A little more defined but still not shouting crazily like hot fuchsia or fiery red.

Wearing Body Shop Colour Crush Shine in Poppy the Question (No 12)
A lot more shiny than the devil red one above kind of warms up my face making it look more lively and flirty. Not skipping the hot blusher which takes my makeup from being OK to much more appealing.

Wearing Primark P.S. Love...
Clearly nobody guessed but the juiciest, overwhelmingly exciting of all was my cheapish Primark find. It gets a lot of use, I have a habit of reapplying its soft texture alarmingly often. It stays on even when wiped off. It's about time to stock on it or wait for something better.

So far Nadia's seemed unconcerned with any of it. xx

nail art
beauty, nail art, today my way

The sun is already up and I don't consider morning to be my best writing hour so I'll proceed with something my mind can handle at this unearthly moment. Nail painting used to be a challenging, nerve wrecking experience for my cuticles, something I wasn't inclined to take on again - picture all kinds of uneven lines, spills, unsteady hands creating more chaos than the design was calling for. As time flew by and my fingers found the right rhythm, I saw some really satisfying results guaranteed to please any eye. I know, it's not revolutionary but I won't fight the nice feeling of having my nails decorated. By myself.

Who is this idea for? A playful soul who wants to enjoy the season without worrying too much about trends and tools needed to create that slight distraction around her cuticles. Have fun decorating, ladies! x
