║today my way║

Sometimes I feel that in lack of life attractions of sorts, we humans kind of complicate our lives simply. We ruin completely satisfactory environment around us, blissful state of order (with the accent on blissful) by unnecessary activities and straight from the sofa, dining table or better first thing in the morning not even looking for another slipper, there is this job to be accomplished immediately. So the laundry fiercely flies, drawers bang, life has a meaning again. Then a distraction shows up and the leftover mess in its perfect indecent form is like a spear to the eye each time a thing is pushed, moved with a touch of foot, acknowledged only for the purpose of making a way around it. Days pass, Facebook notifications multiply but the task started with such feverish willingness gets completely ignored if not shoved under To-Do-List of an unknown future or better delegated to the first empty handed in the household. But no, you'll do it better yourself, it was such a great idea, everything planned and sorted in your grey cells so it's either you or nobody or walls will collapse, there's no other way.

So it lays there, breathes and stares like a trapped animal: piles of bills, receipts, stacks of laundry, unmade compositions of kitchenware, possibilities as the Greeks and Romans would say - are astonishingly endless. This is when life gets complicated. And it was avoidable, perfectly arrangable in parts or time lapses or just freakishly unnecessary at this stage of life. Or morning. So finally the consciousness gets its say using few strong words and an exclamation mark because at this point it no longer feels right. What was promising an outcome of a pinnable value, no longer has any value at all, just a chore to be done with ethically and without exhaustion. I too, was skilfully fooled by my conscious, perfectionist mind and dived head deep in sorting out a six years worth of clothing stored neatly and reasonably aired in the loft of our flat. Don't touch if you're not willing to commit, comes to mind. If it only was that simple.

The task had potential, I had a vision but was prone to self exploitation. Nonetheless went for it like a shopaholic into new season. Sorting by age, garment or designer? I eventually settled on well thought out compositions of outfits to take home with open arms and love for each button and sequin. Add a temporary position as a photographer, assistant leg cramp massageur and wading away from the war field of clothes not making sense together at all was the way to give in. But postponing sounds better and indicates some effort already put in so postponing we'll account for. It was fun, don't get me unrealistically wrong. I thrived in fluffing ruffles of dresses while expanding their hems for the best pictures. Pre-worn but still in their prime, I had to show them off before agreeing on returns. I mixed and matched focusing on the visuals and good light predominantly. Sometimes combined it with the thrill of an added bonus, free pre-loved toy or head band securing the sale. But having a date with six years worth of cotton, wool and polyester blend while maintaining a regular existence and frequent bathroom visits was a call for a total disaster.

I had another go at those abandoned, unsold crammed pieces recently to demonstrate my maturity and it was also time for deep cleaning, so you understand. Clothes had to be sorted and decided upon to go through Facebook sale pages or seasonal markets happening in the area exactly from this month until the last empty rack. It was kind of a relief to end up with a few bags of folded, signed samples ready for girls in the best age groups for sheer, sequined and Disney themed.

►► As a treat I'll walk you down memory lane - little Nadia wearing the very butterfly top I held with a tear in my eye last week (shown above)

►► Hey, that dress used to fit me! (see below)

Six years of collecting colourful clothes to find out the hues will no longer excite. So we've started stocking on soft blue which sound crazy and special and unreal at the same time. Another pretty thrilling experience of sorting through in near future. It can be done exceptionally well, just don't get it our of control ;).

Above all it was a fantastic time of reminiscing. Holding fabrics a pureed rice was once all over them can compare to very few nice things in life. Or when seeing how she's outgrown the dresses and tops, come all those feelings of each milestone happening while wearing them - a true blessing in a simplest form. Not each and every piece found a new closet, we I made sure to leave a few of the dearest for future comparisons and sweet talks about the squishiest arm and leg rolls showing off in the softest of cotton. x

I've been blessed with yet another boy to use my auntie's charm on. What is it universe? You must be convinced I'm doing a pretty decent job in loving. Rest assured, the demand for joy out of simple presence is strong and calling. Babies smell just the same in real life as they do in my mind. Wriggling toes know the same rhythm if only there are enough hours in a day to take it in. And when you await for one arriving, the place in your heart has always been ready, upon first contact arms know the routine by heart, they are the place of pure comfort. There's the first night we remember, the many feeds and a milky breath. The moment eyes actually see us and not just familiarize themselves with. And when they don't just see us but look for intentionally.

Together with a fabulous company, Butterfly Your World I celebrate the arrival of a little boy I call my cousin, little sparkle, the youngest family member to date only just realizing how loved he is. And I'm happy those sunny moccasins are still wide enough for months of motionless adventures before feet are ready to roam free to practice at each opportunity. I can't believe we're here already with his photos occupying my laptop's storage space. There are always enough reasons to finding a pair of feet that can benefit from wearing featured footwear.

P.S. Go check the website - organic, vegan, softest to the touch little treasures will not stay in your shopping cart another mealtime and with the offer of Buy One Get Second Pair 50% Off  I'd raid my closet in making more room. What do you say? x

new-season-kids-clothes-todaymyway

new-season-summer-clothes-children-clothes-vertbaudet
Vertbaudet mixed with Boden and sprinkled with H&M rubber boots
Every season before 2015 and most definitely after 2009 those wardrobe sliding door would never entirely shut. You'd push and tuck but the amount of frills and pleats did stick out hysterically which with sliding door can look as ridiculous as one wants to see it. School days were far ahead, brochures with kids clothing lines kept landing on our doorstep waiting for the first opportunity to get through the dispatch process so that Nadia not only was blessed with a closet of number of items she's still struggling to count to in Reception class but the opportunities to rotate each and every piece seemed to grow with days.

Fast forward to spring 2015 (well, we call it spring in the lack of a better word but be warned -- it doesn't exist as such) and this space that used to teamed up with overabundance, it now is not entertaining: a worn-out fluffy cardigan and a size bigger zip up because it was on sale and who would let it slip away when everybody knows children grow without asking for permission. Three skirts that still cover the obvious but soon there will not be much left to get away with. Even accompanied with leggins. A couple of last year's T-shirts and just enough well fitted girlie tops anything she wishes could go with. It is that limited, it is that thin. But rather than feel sad and unexcited about it, I decided to build up expectations winter wardrobe could never dream of fulfilling. Out of school uniform and in with the first sunshine we'll find ourselves in the process of loving her closet again before hibernating in grey and blue of Year 1. Lots of colour and maybe a few ruffles to feel festive enough. We've already memorized codes of special offers and filled a couple of electronic shopping baskets already so that you know it's worth checking this space for updates ;).

Happy day, friends!

cuteness files, daily events, todaymyway.com

Nadia ran to meet her daddy in a hallway after he came from work and announced with a sad face: I sneezed at school today and nobody said 'cheers'.

We're walking home from school and chatting. Me: "Who would you like to become when you grow up?" Nadia in a serious voice: "I don't know. I'll find out when I grow up."

We're role-playing with Nadia, I'm pretending to be Sven, a reindeer from Frozen and she is Rapunzel (and holding appropriate toys to imitate our characters). After a while me/Sven says wearily: "I'm going home Rapunzel, I'm tired." Nadia/Rapunzel rolling her eyes: "Men."

Nadia was gifted an empty house sticker book to fill in with household equipment, sat with it and wasn't seen for a long time. I thought it would be another quick to finish project with predictable moves but was surprised to find out that there was a whole story to this book - pillows flying in the air, glasses swirling without order and the human characters placed upside down trying to keep balance in the howling wind. She explained how the wind entered the house and played a huge part in rearranging the furniture. It had magical powers making the space look less harmonious but oh so interesting. What a great imagination!

ice cream, big girl, ballerina
►►► Ballerina after the shows keeping her sugar levels in check. So proud of this girl we were celebrating with more colour and falvour than we had room for.

make up, nadia, kids fashion

It was two rainy days of an early July when effortless meant nothing to us. It was about vibrant shots of colour and all the satin features a little girl dreams of or talks about without pausing in case you aren't familiar with a five year old and her clutter of thought. This was such a fun time for everybody involved or not - after almost a year of pirouetting and spinning in all adequate directions, Nadia's first ballet performance in Alice in Wonderland as a bear picnic attendant and a skipping bunny was delightful to watch. I made sure I told absolutely everybody about the show and hoped I was kind enough not to end up too many conversations with covering a variety of topics on the progress of stage set-up, arm movements or elaborate updos intended to stay immaculate for at least the first interval of the show but not necessarily. Some people were more than grateful I did so ;) The atmosphere was great, Nadia looked super stunning in her lilac dress but the full make up needed for the purpose of avoiding the light on stage to drain the colour from her face never returned after the first show. I suppose having it done once and touched up so many times was too much devotion for a little girl. And I liked her that way, with cheeks of a natural pink, shiny eyes without pigmented sparkles.

So this is my ballerina as of early July, in well-crafted gown to be worn on all occasions after the show, most recently at a breakfast table and on late evening bike rides. I guess not having enough time to devote to fashion (as there are other things to dedicate energy to when you're five) but still wanting to look good means throwing the most glamorous fabric on and be ready for an adventure. Don't tell me you wouldn't do just the same.

IF YOU FANCY CREATING YOUR STORY
IF YOU FANCY CREATING YOUR STORY
IF YOU FANCY CREATING YOUR STORY

I told you before I don't lay a finger on what Nadia is wearing these days. It was a hard decision but the good news is she can tell a fantastic story with the things that get pulled out of the closet. It doesn't colour match and is worn in a least subtle way that almost feels like a work of art but my eyes carve visual interest so it works for both of us equally well. However to tell this story, upcoming Valentine's day was our starting point of inspiration making the most of Nadia's existing shade and motif preferences. Nothing is fighting for attention but definitely catches the eye at the right time and in the right light. You see layers which I have contributed to creating so my advice is still holding strong. As long as it blends with everything else and is totally invisible she agrees to this kind of treatment. Otherwise literally starts again adding sheen and colour, texture and doesn't even stop there. Because that's pretty fundamental for getting an instant sense of achievement. Thanks for visiting the boutique. x

LAYERING WILL ALWAYS BE A THING
LAYERING WILL ALWAYS BE A THING

I am a serious fan of onion layers and reusing leftovers. As we're not talking food here you're welcome to an explanation. There’s something incredibly sad about putting away those barely used in generous English sun summer tops on the far ends of drawers and underneath beds before they've gotten a real exposure so I wanted to challenge myself and create longer life for those still loved pieces. So they're gearing up for their extended five minutes of fame. Is it long sleeve season again? Worn responsibly on top of fabric covering bare skin summer vests and T-shirts are game again! We've done it before and will continue to do so because there is always going to be lots of summer leftovers in our closet and we're quite happy they're not going anywhere anytime soon. Thanks for visiting the boutique. x

NO DRASTIC WARDROBE DECISIONS JUST YET
NO DRASTIC WARDROBE DECISIONS JUST YET

Things race along with and without reason these days and my duty is to keep a wide eye on their intensity especially when one's world is seen a lot from other side of the camera glass. I can make it lie but only for as long as the shutter button is half pressed before the light emerges in visible form of objects, colour saturation, faces. Those I'm never enough of noticing. No longer a baby I'm photographing, the series will not be about preschooler anymore and the realization is already making me cringe. Yeah, it might be fun if she allows me to rekindle our love affair with the Canon body when she's 16 (hardly believe it but let's keep dreaming) pulling together a box of clothes to play a little dress up. Maybe she'd even bring her girlfriends to satisfy crazy mum's wish to keep this blog alive. Hey, why not? Now that I'm aware of that, of how fast it's happening I'm becoming weirdly passionate about it. I'm sure we'll have fun dressing up no matter our age or style defined permanently or only for weekends. I'll let it come, battery ready and charged. Until then I'm insanely fond of little adventure we're having. Sequins or not, we're still a game.

Related on balmy days: We still haven't put the heating on, not once. What a bravery! But no, our windows point straight into sun's face on most sunny days and we live on the top floor of a fairly new building so yeah, it's pretty warm until our first snot. Stay tuned for that magic moment our radiators will have their say. Thanks for visiting the boutique. x

PRE-SCHOOL BOUTIQUE: WHEN COLOUR GETS TOO ADDICTIVE
PRE-SCHOOL BOUTIQUE: WHEN COLOUR GETS TOO ADDICTIVE
PRE-SCHOOL BOUTIQUE: WHEN COLOUR GETS TOO ADDICTIVE
^^ White shirt: Young Dimention, Vest, Embroidered skirt: Vertbaudet, Silver sandals: Boden ^^

Bright and colourful rainbow on fabric was always speaking to us louder than any other effect achieved on cotton. Details, patterns, embroidery were added to the mix but we liked turning to pastels and plains just as we liked the opposite vibrant shelf. Those photos were taken earlier this year before going on a short trip with my friend so all we cared for was comfort and layering in case the weather changed significantly. We follow this rule on most occasions combining it with Nadia's choice for colour or funny character she's seen on a silver screen. Since this September any outfit that shows out the door comes together because of important factor that is giving Nadia independence in putting it on and/or taking it off without much help from an adult. So we're talking skirts, leggins, press studs, slip on shoes, Crocs (their end of life ceremony was held in our bathroom before putting them away for winter).

I am attracted to classic shades personally so white has been a key colour when creating many visually pleasing attires. On a lightly tanned skin which you just can't avoid even when slapping tons of sun cream on and with that blonde-going-lighter-and-lighter-in-the-sun locks - white, cream, beige could get a little obsessing and become most exciting summer trend. And I'm realizing now we've never had much love for all things floral, just occasional seasonal dress or little nail decorations. Maybe next summer? So on a path to epitomise individuality as well as comfort and encouraging independence - narrowing our fabric selections down to few basics in more compromising colours is the way to create some magic. Thanks for visiting the boutique.

PRE-SCHOOL BOUTIQUE: GREY IS NEW EVERYTHING
PRE-SCHOOL BOUTIQUE: GREY IS NEW EVERYTHING

Although I've spent six days away from my little girl to date, it's still like a continuous weekend for us over here. Yes, I often feel the urge for a proper daily routine with meals at certain times and bedtime at such but when you work occasional night shifts and burn out the excess energy (like there is any) according to weekend rota - you just play along with weather and whatever little gal has on her mind that day. From dressing up to painting nails, drawing faces and kneading the play dough, playing hide and seek and a lot more while we're out on the slides or picking shells that can still contain a living creature. We're still a few dreary months away from making room in our drawers for school uniforms with matching tights and overalls which aren't really the girliest outfit one can imagine but that will only let us enjoy last year of fluff, frill and colour even better.

Now, I was going to talk about grey to balance it out with the upcoming pink explosion. It's been spreading all over our household like a mild outbreak of chicken pox, sure thing we'll make a good use of all that's still left to swish in grey. But really, playing with any colour can be amazing if you're so into that. x

LONG TERM RELATIONSHIP WITH PINK

LONG TERM RELATIONSHIP WITH PINK

Making friends is not a new term in our bilingual vocabulary yet still the most pleasant task in pre-school schedule. Little girls, freely walking cats, happy squirrels are on our radar. I never told you how I love watching Nadia in the game of befriending others, her friendliness matches her timidity, eagerness for playful dates emits through copying and following joyous rhythms. It lifts my spirits so much seeing her taking steps in socializing with children her size, age or just with those who are responding with humour and thankfully no one seems to mind their full nappies too much ;) September introduces Nadia to place jam packed with books, toys, stuff resulting in a space that's messy and chaotic but in a good way. Shy at first she gets involved in activities with other children from her kindergarten forgetting the outside world even exists. Still that first moment when we say our goodbyes before handing her over to her carer has been a heartbreaking experience but the minute she gets busy with drawing, watering the flowers, feeding the guinea pigs, she's the happiest under the colourful ceiling and those three plus hours on her very entertained with kids own suddenly are not looking so bad. As her confidence grows, ten times out of ten she will love the place.

Speaking of pink, the big day is coming. We’re all excited for the cyclamen hue to be arriving next week and staying on for many terms to come in pirouetting swings. Nadia has been talking about the tap shoes other girls have and dreamy skirts they float around in like forever so it's understandable her playful use of colour has to be put on hold in aid of small doses of pinky hue. During that time I'll get inspired elsewhere. x
