║today my way║

Time for the favourite this season - lots of juicy, colourful appearance on our plate. I guess this rainbow of vitamins could easily be scattered into pretty porcelain bowls separately so that everyone would head for their own preferred snack but would that be fun? Not so much. So one Saturday when time slowed down for a bit I decided to surprise the bunch I call my family by attempting to create something different from simple ingredients eaten in abundance in a week. Everyone loves pizza, this time the beautiful weather called for lighter version of this delicious dish so I gathered familiar fruit varying in taste, hue and shape and after cutting it neatly all was placed on the round face of a slice of a watermelon. Every inch of pizza without heating up the oven!

Kids were in heaven waiting for something magical to appear on their plates and then eating it whole or piece by piece savouring each bit. It made my whole weekend. Hands were sticky and sweet, busy from piling handfuls of blueberries into their mouths. No slice or juicy chunk was ignored. And I guess, as much fun as I attempted to spread around I felt I had the most wonderful time myself. Seeing everybody excited and jumping at a chance to share my idea was something I'm itching to try more often this summer (with a squishy baby attached to my hip!). It's so easy to create an extraordinary thing out of plain and barely exciting. I'm pretty sure this pizza rocked without shame. x

►► See what I mean? Now most of their time spent in the backyard is made of snacking. Will I be thanked for that? ;)

As the day is long I could excitedly just wander about and gasp at every turning wherever my swollen feet would take me. Seaside or bit further inland. Cold interiors with windows not fully enclosed in pictures. Gardens and muddy paths examining my balancing skills. I'm a rolling stone after all and you know that. I lay quietly for longer, go about the daily life and then this rolling detector activates and there's no meantime, no postponing and no stepping aside. It's all about getting the soles out the door until no further notice. Winter has finally realized it can't keep up with blossoming trees anymore and that's my favourite thing at the moment! I think I've forgotten how to enjoy a simple walk. Unrushed, unaccompanied, in direction of no worries, no purpose and no particular business at all. I lie when I say unaccompanied, I have the sun seducing my eyelids, time paying no attention, extra thick knee high socks peeking from worn out boots and enough phone battery to be content about not forgetting any of my nonsense. Occasionally I could do with a pair of sunglasses and more sunscreen on my fading freckles; I could do with more frequent trips to the public restrooms but I can't do it without spring anymore! Getting safely from A to B usually depends on my sensibility in taking the right equipment (hello, umbrella, always in all the wrong places) or just being on time for the bus - when friends and their cars are on hand, I can totally ignore the above. I'm so ridiculously glad this flower of mine wants to be included in any escapade that either requires strong legs or just a hat and pair of gloves. Tirelessly, with cheeks of the brightest pink she's my partner in straying around. I'm glad she's there by my side without even realizing how important her presence is. Her observations on point and arguments of sorts. Her guesses, gasps and sense of a six year old humour. The whole vigorous package in stripy tights and milky winter hat.
►► Who is going to grow taller?

With a quick rainpour not ruining any of the fun, we had a wonderful time just wandering. Isn't it what we love best? And castles or cathedrals, old stone in general. Always a tick. We land at the doorstep as rather expected visitors encouraged to ask and receive, our own pace is respected and only a flash photography frown at. We tire our necks from looking up to ceilings and stained glass renovated at least eight times since a typical day of the past but we keep looking. We read bits on the walls about fascinating marriages, inheritors, murders and fires. We look for signs of mice and hidden staircase for when tired out we generally don't want to attract the crowd. And can't wait to be back to our rented space because there's hot water and neflix even if it hasn't been renovated since we first moved in.

I was a bit nervous as to how I would cope walking for couple of hours but there was nothing to really worry about. We did several stops for coffee and rested our feet on occasional bench which was totally expected and awesomely awaited. And even after almost a whole day out I don't think we were ready to head home yet. With rain scheduled for late afternoon, banging on the roof of my friend's car we drove to neighbouring town Lymington for a wet stroll through closing shops and people rushing home for the weekend. Fascinations come and drift away, I believe my traveling sensor will stay activated till I'm gray and grumpy. Or mostly gray.

January here is a super ridiculous month. Yesterday I wore two pairs of socks indoors, today I'm prancing around in the winter garden without a hat and with my belly fully exposed to the last chill. But we're making it through, my little boy kicking his feet like a hooligan introducing me to what it will be like raising a boy. But I don't mind, I get anxious when he's been quiet for a while and can't stop smiling when he's back to what he does best already. Mostly when I'm executing absolutely nothing at all so he can get all mama's attention. In those moments I take Nadia's little hand smeared in rainbow of colours from afternoon date with markers and pens so she can greet her brother. The first time she felt him move she couldn't be more surprised, it was a joy to watch, it is good to just sit still and watch them "play" together. Some of the times he is having it his way tricking whomever there is to await him perform and nothing, not even the crunchiest biscuit I'm devouring will do the job. That's the spongy, downy, sweet portion of life here. As there is this rough path full of hormonal imbalances, emotional shifts I'm not good at steering and the cocktail of thoughts what's awaiting ahead has been served. And drank in little sips for really fancy occasions I try to avoid greatly. But the spring is in the air, I believe and my boy is growing like a champ -- who's even wanna mention some antepartum nonsense? (Aaaand weekend is coming for some as a secret weapon against the bad and the ugly, what's not to like?) x

No, don't be alarmed we're suffering the worst summer to date, those pictures reflect the springtime which judging by hair being blown in all directions and warm clothes hindering our movements -- these are not recent. As mentioned previously in post about Kingston Maurward Gardens, here is the last batch of activities we immersed ourselves in while accompanied by a sudden rainpour. Yes, the sun eventually emerged and wedged us out of layers we were loyal to for the trip. Rain aside, muddy ground too, we had a brilliant time. Animals had brilliant time and everyone who happened to visit Kingston Maurward that day was pleased to have the place mostly to themselves while all the rest of the district curled up on the sofa whilst feeling sorry for those scrapping mud off their boots. Or ballerinas if you happen to be me. For us it meant extra coffee squeezed in in anticipation for a clearer sky but I guess, you just have to roll with it if you're going to have any fun. Not easy but manageable.

We had a lot to get through - animal pens and back of the gardens while snacking along the way, embracing each lick and sniff with grace and handfuls of food designed to keep the glances friendly. Simply enjoying it without overdoing it. I particularly loved watching Nadia interacting with the animal world that is not vitally our every-day view. You see an unbelievable number of cats and dogs on the streets at any given weather but a goat, llama, pig that is not necessarily pink - that is something extraordinary for a five year old town-raised child. She was curious but cautious, found simple things about the lot quite hilarious at times and was partly involved in feeding. There was a nice learn/play balance throughout this trip so big thanks to all furry creatures for only slightly limiting to how close they'd actually let us get.

Then the evening rolled around so we closed the adventure with a stroll down the back of the garden to discover more breathtaking views I didn't hesitate to capture. I'll sound like a broken record but those places, these colours fill my heart like nothing else giving me enough energy for the weeks ahead. I'm a countryside girl after all.

Have a great day, friends! x

We had some seriously dangerous amounts of rain that day dedicated to accompany us everywhere it could possibly enter. Geared with umbrellas and raincoats my feet craved something more summer-y so silly and irresponsibly of me my beloved ballerinas came along. I'm not afraid to be the only odd one for most occasions. This post should really have started as Once upon a half term... because the memory of that time is beginning to shift away by days but this bunch of photos is totally worth talking through. So please do hold the umbrella upright as there are masses of water dribbling from all around because yes, it rained. As it was for most of the spring over here. I still haven't overcome that fact. Or the ballerinas' stench ;).

Kingston Maurward Gardens is a place to do the many things one likes - wander for hours in any weather, spot the colours outgrowing the stone, play hide-and-seek and Come back, I can't see you, Nadia all way back to the neatly cut bushes and benches under wisteria trees. There are animals too, lazily chewing the grass and making good impressions on photographs, but wisteria... it's following my tracks like a beloved puppy and looks exactly the same with any kind of background. A whole June my eyes refused to blink at passing the bunch while making mental notes of its meandering arrangement. There's this house on our way to school I've been meaning to possess internally - the way wisteria branches entwine red bricks and the arch of the front door gives me shivers. Or maybe it's just the chill in the air, I'm not tempted to find out. So having it staring straight in my face the entire visit was like a dream so enjoy it with me like the best image with a likes-boosting filter.

As you walk further into the unknown and probably had a light snack already, the sky is cut out into a dated house with a fish pond decorated with water lilies and reflection of sun in the green hand-finished pool. Rain stopped and took far off for the afternoon so we simply lingered around smelling flowers, crumbling crackers and counting fish untroubled for their lifetime. There was a lake at the bottom of the hill with a swan occupying its silent surface half out of sight behind the tall grass. Back to the pond we made time for the necessary - taking it all in by handfuls, staring dreamily in the luminous clouds and Nadia's deep red jacket playing around with joy. Outside world didn't exist, not a single object drew us away from the privacy of secluded garden and its cold stone. Not a soul was around due to the unpredictability of weather, later there was a family following our footsteps but for the most part it was all ours. To breathe in, to memorize, to daydream.
