A KINGDOM FOR A KISS
A KINGDOM FOR A KISS
A KINGDOM FOR A KISS

As a mum who stays home with Nadia for most of the week, I have to admit I’m pretty excited about school time. Next September she will start attending primary school so today is all about making small adjustments to our routine for when stopped in my tracks I'll hardly know what to do with all mornings to myself. I mean creating chemistry with time can be relatively easy but the hard part will unarguably be doing it all alone, differently, certain things will definitely not stay the same at all. I do fear walking in straight lines, picking things from store shelves and being done instead of weaving and wandering, being distracted to stare, look up or down, to stop. Or maybe I will continue the way we do it now, after all we've done it for so long. But yes, it feels nice to know it's her turn to make her space as positive and fabulous as she can no matter how many times I'll think of picking up the phone and ask how she's doing. Overwhelming to say the least.

I have applied for a school place for Nadia this week and hope for the one her cousin Chase attends. Two peas in a pod. Eight months age gap but never seen anyone so happy doing nothing really productive while holding hands, singing songs or demanding more sugar. Taking their friendship to another level I'd love to watch from afar, encouraging, dissolved in laughs and first secrets. They learn their future roles with excitement, mastering the body language not knowing the overload of incentives has already taken over. Hope they won't grow out of needing each other and I'm happy to spy it as they go by. x

BUTLIN'S
BUTLIN'S

This summer we have enjoyed various activities and visited multiple children friendly parks and nooks hidden out of the hustle and bustle of a busy town which is why we are such fans. Most mornings of not so crispy tees and straight jeans we're ready to roll to wherever less visited, overlooked and if the place can double up as something else - a pirate ship, a castle, it gets to be way more interesting.

We do think big too. Going to UK holiday parks for us is like sprinkling some fairy dust onto the scene especially as dusk starts to overtake more and more, light hitting the walls almost makes them magical. Pantomimes, shows, attractions that quicken our heart rate are definitely on our list no matter the season. So we've sat down and browsed nearer and farther fun destinations hardly sleeping knowing we're a click away to get into the Christmas spirit. Although I present you summer pictures, here are some breathtaking images from Butlin's holiday/leisure resort website to convince and inspire. My brochure is in the post and the childhood excitement takes over again.

LET'S TALK FOOD AND SOMETHING ELSE
LET'S TALK FOOD AND SOMETHING ELSE
LET'S TALK FOOD AND SOMETHING ELSE
^^ You're actually peeking through Husband's, dark side of the table of a meat feast while leafy, veggy dish of mine is being lovably discovered underneath the bunch of arugula leaves opposite from yours truly. I've always wanted to grow a garden. ^^

I could eat Italian on every occasion. There’s rarely other cuisine I find so satisfying I tuck in without worrying too much over my fickle waistline. I guess mealtime is all about excitement through each mouthful so we shall never underestimate the chemistry between our food and let's say clothes (more on clothes in a separate episode of rambling). Pizza is always inviting with its mix of temptiness on a simple pan tantalizing all the visible senses and complementing already awesome evening. On another dreary afternoon all the good natured forces teamed up in a preparation of a quick date with my husband. Rain followed our every step throughout running some errands until we sat down to enjoy the right proportions of meat and vegetables with odd conversations leading us home (through kindergarten picking up Nadia first). Dead tired but I had exceedingly happy evening we'd love to recreate on more and more occasions.

As it may not be seen on tons and tons of photographs that fill the internet as I skillfully hide or erase it through Photoshop sessions, I'm wearing hearing aids in everyday life. I was perfectly capable of living my life without them up until about three years ago however since then it is barely an option. I've gotten so used to them I've almost forgotten having them on although I tend to take them out now and then (they're the tiny into the ear canal ones). You will probably not see me wearing them here but I have no problems going around with my hair up and standing sideways to others. And with my re-appearing ear infections I went for a check-up and soon will have new, smaller, perfectly fitted beauties. So, there you go...

HOW DO YOU SPARKLE THIS SEASON?
Sparkly sweater: Asos, Sequined skirt: Next, Seahorse necklace: eBay find
There’s still time left to adjust to the changing seasonal dimensions, activate our own sparkly share in the worldwide celebrations. My face has been pressed up against shopping windows with the eye following wide circle of luminous shine coming towards me in tiny increments of candlelit dawn, glowing diodes on already appearing everywhere fir trees, finally as golden studs and sequins on my clothes softening all the hard edges. There are no escape routes from my very own sitting room either and in the morning when the artificial yet so soothing different from a real crisp and sharp light is wearing off I look forward to its magical powers transforming personality of my rooms again. We’re all gather this super burst of power and energy, carry it home, trap in stores, distract darkness with the tree lights that draw the eye. I look around and find ordinary buildings lit up beyond comprehension, we measure the days in terms of sparks. So soothing to see Nadia stare unblinkingly at the rush of legs with amused expressions. We like our twosome escapades into town for our supply of light in the melancholic months of winter. This year I own more sparkly detailed clothes than I realized and my body seems to be reacting quite positively on being adorned in not always practical pieces. But it's the visuals that matter...

How do you and your cozy spaces sparkle this season? In anticipation of your responses I'd love to ask you to share photos with accompanying captions of how you've captivated the light and I'll be posting them here throughout the month of December. My gmail inbox is super excited! x

SOMETHING MAGICAL HAPPENED
^^ Yes, that fringe sporting muffin is myself truly at the age of six. ^^

From early on getting to know that little pea growing too well inside me, picturing those chubby cheeks reflecting no one else's traits but ours mattered more than much. Funnily enough there is a ton of fab features for her genes to choose from yet they were unable to have a grasp at what's connected to my side of this anatomical business. From minute one to a couple of months ago (with image above being a certain proof) I felt me and Nadia were mistakenly linked by the joke-loving genetics and no two features we shared accordingly. The fabulous thing about her looks is she's taken what could be the best to inherit from her father - full bottom lip, perfectly shaped button of a nose, thick and manageable curly hair, deepest shade of blue in her pupils. Not one freckle spotted, no auburn in her locks discussed, growth spurt way too quick as for my toddler days.

Anyways we were gathered here not to debate the differences (of which there are many) but we're here to spot the similarities anyone could do taking one step away from the screen. I was throwing some summer photos into the mounting mix of stored images when our resemblance hit me just right only lighter around the neck. The way she squints her eyes while smiling, turns her head a little to the right exposing the left side were my answers in searching for genes working hard under my languid eyes. It's rather lovely to get a feeling of squishy contentment at familiar features that are not the easiest to get hold of and that you connect to emotionally and watch them in intriguing gasps as they evolve. Now the list of similarities can get as ostentatious as celebrity's pad and I don't mean it in a bad way (at least this time) - from the slim frame and tiny bone structure to the shape of our eyes and ears she is mine turning my traits from ordinary to extraordinary. Every day there is more to link, recognize, admire. x

IN PICTURES
^^ I've spied with my smartphone eye a toddler willing on taking roads less traveled by. The most interesting areas have no straight paths and more leafless trees then others. Find us there. Always. ^^
IN PICTURES
^^ How to care for the delicate world within: lots of sleep and cuddly friends. ^^
IN PICTURES
^^ Make your room a playpen, your house a playground... simply learning from these two, Nadia and her cousin and best friend of four years ^^
IN PICTURES
^^ Stash of my seaside photos is mounting - at least you're well stocked for the next three years ;) ^^
IN PICTURES
^^ It's hard to go wrong with a bit of chocolate and tons of sprinkles or any variation like it. ^^
IN PICTURES
^^ The experience outweighed our senses - didn't mind the cold late evening when the sky was talking. ^^
IN PICTURES
^^ Everyday journey of discovery... for both parties involved but way too tangible for Nadia by looking at her awed face. ^^

IN PICTURES
^^ A subject so dear to her heart, mind and closet - all that is layered in pink and makes a beautiful sense. ^^
IN PICTURES
^^ How do we occupy ourselves? Can't really seem to maintain one activity for very long - tea parties and sweets tasting is just the beginning of an eventful day. ^^

IT NIBBLES OUR CHEEKS AND STARTS ON THE EARS

As you can probably guess by the look on her face, Nadia was enjoying rides up and down the hill before it got too cold to stay safely outdoors. Even layered thick with cotton and wool we were so unaware we're actually not winter people. Within minutes we ran up the steep path in one rolling motion, Nadia laughed as I groaned how much there was to push and then I was standing, whining, wishing I'd worn warmer tights, railing at the cold making my fingers clumsy. Once home she promptly fell asleep on the sofa while I was trying to reclaim the movement of my fingers on the keyboard. I kept looking over my shoulder at the breathing blanket with a socked foot sticking out and disturbing my writing but I could keep doing so even realizing I haven't written much. We'll go out again tomorrow passing most of the alleyways before we stop to eat sweet buns and flash sympathetic smile at a squirrel holding totally intact nut then cracking it open before our eyes. We'll go as far as we can bear this cold ;)

How do you keep warm these unthinkably chilly days? x

IT DOESN'T TAKE LONG TO RECOGNIZE SUNSHINE
IT DOESN'T TAKE LONG TO RECOGNIZE SUNSHINE

The universe was murmuring to us with its highly pitched voice of an ecstatic blackbird or a wren ready for new day in the open stretch of English suburbs. We could remain antisocial, buried deeply in warm sheets but the waking of a day got us mildly embarrassed knowing the sidewalks were bustling with life. Absolutely content with the choice of scenery we walked to smile hello to the beach and tell her all about our weekend allowing Nadia to run wild and unfocused with me staring unblinkingly at the silver surface seen so many times before. A while ago someone close to me pointed the ridiculousness of feeling ecstatic each time my feet touch the sand, every time long paragraphs reveal the utmost pleasure we find at a simple playground even if I believe these are some of the happiest days of our lives I know I could never live without.

Three years back I was involved in a lot of activities with people with brain injuries and other types of mental disabilities. Whatever my role was, the experience has affected my perception on what we are grateful for and what is taken for granted. I sat shivering and watery-eyed next to the less fortunate ones with the dexterity of my mind required to pick up the pieces as they fall out in anticipation to regain their self-esteem and finding beauty in silent stares at products a human hand could come up with. That's why I've been considering volunteering again, one long breath at a time, one mend of a soul at a stunning view to get my reward in grins, inarticulate sounds in transit to an adequate comprehension. Maybe it's because I'm getting older, softer, teary-eyed on a mention how important it is to preserve the actual moment, make our pasts our allies, neighbours our friends, current views our future nests. I'm lucky to get excited with what's around us, remain wide-eyed on all occasions. If I have no more than a nice beach to offer to my child, my own being, fully mental capable person but of not working vertebrae, I'm asking politely: how is this life worth spending?

TIME TO PUT A HEART AND SOUL INTO IT

Honey oak chest of drawers holds embarrassing amount of framed photographs of her posing in the dust of Sahara, riding a horse, next to the plane propeller, wearing trousers and smiling with confidence. A continuation of a promise made years ago now carefully dusted, lovingly arranged and carried everywhere she went. Studying their negatives today wouldn’t have brought much amusement if it didn’t occur to me that she was just one of those people who figured life’s a gift and didn’t intend on wasting it but making each day count. Draw limitations and you’ll bound your life to them; have an open mind, be brave and you’ll always find a way to achieve. “Promise me you’ll survive. That you won’t give up, no matter what happens, no matter how hopeless. Promise me now, Rose, and never let go of that promise.” “I promise.” “Never let go.” “I’ll never let go, Jack. I’ll never let go.”

You know what movie this quote is taken from, don't you? Thoughts on things that escaped my attention this year are starting to line up... Me in 10, 20 years time... How will I look like, what my life will be like? Will it be worth the wait, excitement? 2014 is upon us and my resolution list has never been so overstuffed and well... untouched. I envy people whose parents were consistent, motivated and encouraging. Mine were none of these things and raised me to become none of these things either (although I owe them a world). You are what you were taught to be, think a certain way is a myth I no longer believe. Neither I believe in destiny, fate, God. On the contrary, I’ve gained a strong belief in me creating one and only life. If there were things I needed to accomplish and I’ve done nothing to it, the only one to blame was me. Not bad luck or my parents. Creation is natural, stagnation is not.

A few years ago I have come up with an idea for a novel and until I don’t get the story out of my head, I’m not a real writer, am I? I'm into writing because this is what I do best and enjoy my company above all else while in the shelter of hours elapsing in silence, I hide behind words like actors dissemble behind their characters and singers use music to camouflage the truth. For many writing is a therapy - well known personalities are bestowed upon their fictional characters. Sometimes to be read equals to be heard, you’re not anonymous anymore. Unless you are a very stable writing being, you’re only comfortable describing the surroundings you know, you’ve experienced or in this or other way they have bothered you for long enough to end up in ink. I wasn’t immediately sure if the novel I’m scribbling in between folding laundry and stretching tendons in poses I rarely allow in bedroom (I mean doing yoga) was a way of escaping my troubles. The story is way too complicated... yet mirrors most of the exclamation marks in my head. We should be doing what we love unless of course silly daily missions keep us anchored unecstatically to the desk, sink, anywhere momentarily not amusing. I'm really keen on allocating those long evenings for first chapters. Thank you for coming, inspiration. x
