this girl turned five, just a party mood, birthday girl

This month belongs to her. With its raging wind enjoying lots of drama on our heads and all that can physically fit in our hands that can be difficult to get around with at times - you get the picture of one of the most family friendly scenarios these days (imagine scooter, rainboots, umbrellas carrying mama fighting with the fringe she's only becoming familiar with hauling it all up a double decker's higher floor). If I could compare Nadia's personality to a season, it would definitely be the English autumn: sunny cool mornings combined with wet afternoons stretching towards evenings and beyond. Or the other way round or just completely unpredictably different making the school run even less manageable but oh so fun. I was going to talk about this special day in a calendar that belongs to her completely and is abundant in things unpractical but beautiful however we tried hard on the practical side a bit more this year. Her birthday, my favourite time of the year. Party followed the next sunny afternoon as a last minute plan and I am eternally thankful for places that come up with own ideas and are stocked to the last themed napkin. We made lots more friends than any other previous year so we wanted to accommodate them accordingly. Bunkering down at home and sitting in six or more on a three seater definitely stopped feeling enjoyable even eating a lot of good food. Lack of a garden or safe outside space turned my attention to a soft play area kids can go unattended for longer than it is parentally acceptable.

They ran, slid, made memories in bruises and chocolate birthday cake stains on bubblegum leggins voluntarily. Friends from kindergarten and a new friend from school, girls she loves having around and boys she's never tired to team up with were there. It was nice to catch up with mums on latest school lunches, holiday spots they recommend and generally admitting new emotions since starting school no one was really prepared for.

►►► A thing worth noting about this photo - sometimes a big party is definitely too much for a girl to handle and all she can think of is how much coins she would need to buy another hero in her X-box game. Or anything else that may require more attention at that time. Undisturbed and thoughtfully preserved digitally.

CROSSING OVER TO THE DARK SIDE

CROSSING OVER TO THE DARK SIDE

Just making it short and exciting for the weekend with two photos from my recent fabulous birthday night out with great bunch of people celebrating appearance of new crow's feet on my face. You can't fully see my dark brown hair (although the poor lighting adds intrigue to the colour) which I need to get used to but I didn't want to go down the lighter route. So now I am like a sponge taking as many compliments as just the opposite but I'm fine with that. I like variety. When going out, some nights I favour glam feminine look, other nights (let's start counting and it still will be a one digit number) a rock'n'roll kind of vibe. Dress is always my pick but the thought of sharpening the look a bit can't fade away recently. As for the underwear I needed something to lift and sculpt a bit as a middle aged woman should do and it did the job fantastically! I can't praise it enough, it's instant mood (and other bits) lifter if you will. Take my word of wisdom and unearth possibilities that you didn't ever think possible in a tiny piece of fabric. When the night turned to dawn we melded seamlessly with the world asleep for a good few hours. A little older, a little wiser... Back to normal. x

How exciting is it to celebrate birthday in a place you were born, found love, kissed for the very first time? I admit, it doesn't sound that fancy for those who live in their birth towns but for me stealing a few hours alone together with my husband and walking into our town made this cold December day a treat like no other especially that we didn't really shop or eat out but concentrated on visual aspects (through camera lens mostly) feeling smitten and accessing warmed up interiors. You can find a foreword to my home town in this post here, each time it excites and surprises me alike - dramatic in its architectonic wounds, beautiful through history it holds, economically challenged, daring in its new projects. Not perfect but one of its kind and visiting it is always a bonus.

The rest of the day was spent among family and table made of cheesecake.

Time to take a look at the recent party Nadia was the reason for. It was built around light food (full shelf of jellies like I was stocking up the whole supermarket and fruit kebabs), quiet games (puzzle arranging to start with and galloping around the flat to finish off) and bonding with distant family. It is never easy for me to choose the right food everyone will enjoy but the soft cheese and salmon bagels are a definite must. Help yourselves and tell me if you agree with my picks.

Nadia is excited whenever there are people around, much more if they are children so one minute she was wrestling with the wrapping paper to go running the next leaving it half-torn. Gifts were more on a practical side this year popping up in a form of clothes (green polka dot dress the happy girl is wearing) and developmental accessories (puzzles and books). If you can spot Nadia's new vehicle she innocently pointed at in store, you can imagine what a race course this flat has become. And a new favourite parking spot is temporarily in the kitchen, just right in front of the washing machine. I wish it was left in some more peaceful surroundings but this way I have my muffin close by even more often. The evening came unnoticed while we were chatting, laughing and watching Nadia's dress swish on a carpeted dance floor. The most enjoyable three years of my life have been summed up in a combination of tiny lips covered in chocolate, stains on my leggins from yummy sticky fingers and crumbs all over the apartment. It's unbelievable how time never rests in the eyes of a mother who gravitates towards getting to know her little girl more everyday. And I will keep on gravitating because I can't do anything else to get to love her more and know her better.

On an early morning, early into the autumn on a random side road my mum is posing on her first day at school holding a cardboard cone filled with sweets, chocolate and little treats. She's six and pretty, her life has just gotten a new direction, her heart is full of hope.

She taught me to write and read, made sure my handwriting was neat and tidy as hers and always even at teenager's darkest hour kept telling me how pretty I was and how she looked forward to seeing me having my own family. There are features in me I don't appreciate having inherited but sharing them with her make us special, unique. It always makes me appreciate her so much more when we're miles away. My autumn girls - my mum and Nadia, both Libras, both indecisive to some of their choices, nervous and incredibly lovable, always seeking attention and recognition.
