║today my way║

this girl turned five, just a party mood, birthday girl

This month belongs to her. With its raging wind enjoying lots of drama on our heads and all that can physically fit in our hands that can be difficult to get around with at times - you get the picture of one of the most family friendly scenarios these days (imagine scooter, rainboots, umbrellas carrying mama fighting with the fringe she's only becoming familiar with hauling it all up a double decker's higher floor). If I could compare Nadia's personality to a season, it would definitely be the English autumn: sunny cool mornings combined with wet afternoons stretching towards evenings and beyond. Or the other way round or just completely unpredictably different making the school run even less manageable but oh so fun. I was going to talk about this special day in a calendar that belongs to her completely and is abundant in things unpractical but beautiful however we tried hard on the practical side a bit more this year. Her birthday, my favourite time of the year. Party followed the next sunny afternoon as a last minute plan and I am eternally thankful for places that come up with own ideas and are stocked to the last themed napkin. We made lots more friends than any other previous year so we wanted to accommodate them accordingly. Bunkering down at home and sitting in six or more on a three seater definitely stopped feeling enjoyable even eating a lot of good food. Lack of a garden or safe outside space turned my attention to a soft play area kids can go unattended for longer than it is parentally acceptable.

They ran, slid, made memories in bruises and chocolate birthday cake stains on bubblegum leggins voluntarily. Friends from kindergarten and a new friend from school, girls she loves having around and boys she's never tired to team up with were there. It was nice to catch up with mums on latest school lunches, holiday spots they recommend and generally admitting new emotions since starting school no one was really prepared for.

►►► A thing worth noting about this photo - sometimes a big party is definitely too much for a girl to handle and all she can think of is how much coins she would need to buy another hero in her X-box game. Or anything else that may require more attention at that time. Undisturbed and thoughtfully preserved digitally.

FUN THAT SHOULD NEVER BE MISSED
FUN AT FARMER PALMER'S

This girl. There's sweetness filling her up making me burst with pride and joy and all that a mama can think of when looking at her girl, holding her in arms, perfecting each grip. But the minute you show her what boys do, the female part we care deeply about is fading. Running around without her shirt on? Check. Playing Lego and Harry Potter on Xbox? Embarrassing check. Riding serious vehicles with a confidence meant for showing? You bet, check. It was a long bank holiday weekend around these parts, grass lusciously green and not much planning involved but we were up for whatever idea gathered up the people we know and like to get tired with... And outdoors obviously. All parties had more fun than on the average playground and I guess the sheep's contribution shouldn't be overlooked. Us, resident animals, we were all in this together ensuring no activity went unchecked, unnoticed, turned down intimidatingly. We've been fantasizing of coming back to this place ever since. x

FAIRYTALE HIDEAWAY - NADIA'S ROOM TOUR
FAIRYTALE HIDEAWAY - NADIA'S ROOM TOUR
^^ There are books in two languages and dolls available to play with in all kinds of circumstances. Recently it's been the meteorological kind. ^^

This space is the most uplifting and magical within any distance. Corners gradually filled with colour and texture as we were never in a hurry to finish it, it still calls for a little desk and a chair to acommodate so the recent updates are not final. But is a room ever finished? It's also pretty thrilling not knowing what we're gonna create. The abundance of pink, touch of green and Disney royalty was added through all kinds of collaborations: shopping sprees, birthdays, unplanned surprises. Lots of really great stuff I like keep adding to in respectable time manner. OK, let's proceed before someone removes me forcibly from the computer.

^^ It's all about telling stories these days and Nadia mastered her role-play voices in no time. She'll even tell you something interesting about colouring book. I believe her. ^^

^^ There aren't many hanging decorations happening in Nadia's bedroom as we need to keep holes to a painful minimum but these are the kinds of items we swear by until we get our hands on own plaster (favourite heroine and a calendar because that's the most popular options when you're restricted). ^^

SEEING IT, LOVING IT, ENCOURAGING IT

SEEING IT, LOVING IT, ENCOURAGING IT

It's pretty much to ask of a little girl to have her hair a certain way so we don't. Interestingly enough all the layers that grew the way only nature can explain are here to stay, slightly trimmed every quarter and styled according to latest Disney trends. It's more of an adventure now and as a result she turns down all hair accessories, artful braids I was so good at and with carefree attitude embraces messy-chic hairstyle even without teasing or blow drying in the opposite of hair growth direction (although we do it for fun). I do it regularly, skip unnecessary styling and don't always pull it off instantly so it really isn't about practice. Seeing strands of hair peeking out cautiously from behind ears tickling exposed skin on Nadia's neck I realize this has to be taken personally because apart from prying how Rapunzel is styling her roots this is how I've been wearing mine - low ponytail adorned with a simple elastic and a streak of hair dangling optimistically on a surface of my cheek. I'll even go a step further and say that hair should be a little rebellious, preferably styled with a little bit of morning attitude. x

CUSTOM MADE CHRISTMAS
CUSTOM MADE CHRISTMAS

The closer to Christmas the more fabulous activities are happening around the house to get excited, curious, overwhelmed with more than a tiny bit. Not much cooking is going on these days but we do craft like crazy and the big family table gets used properly every time creative thought strikes up. This time we came up with the idea of making our own Christmas cards and stationery of all sorts to the bundles of our joy's delight. Nadia and her two cousins didn't quite know what to start with having all the products they could mess up with at their reach. Immediately their senses activated stimulating creative juices. Everything appealed to busy hands, everything got glued to them and other surfaces accordingly. Not every project was finished off, quite a few could read 'task in progress' or 'will come back to it... one day' because there were some neglected toys awaiting so we called it a day as anything like that could take forever to get produced. But we liked it that way, it's their vision after all.

As for the supplies - let the kids choose what to incorporate in their designs from the whole household. We no longer have straws available and printing paper gets missing in record speed but that's just fine with us. Those things not only expand horizons but magically teach us how to substitute them around house with less used items (and believe me until this day I can't figure out how we let her play with the eggcups, they're foreign to our kitchen now). The best part of time spent on more than just drawing is that Nadia learns colours in English. These days it's all about emphasizing efforts in her second language so she can juggle between shades without blink of an eye. I don't sense a change to this trend anytime soon so prepare yourselves for a rainbow adventure. And we couldn't be more thrilled about that! x

JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING OUT THERE WORTH LOVING
JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING OUT THERE WORTH LOVING

When the sun was still upon us and summer gear was in full show, we decided to head somewhere nice (not too far away) and it happened to be our beloved Swanage again (we can't help it, right?). We packed as light as we could, wandered around crowded streets before entering the gates of a kid's wildest fantasy coming true. This little entertainment park sits just on top of the hill overlooking insanely gorgeous view that is within your reach as long as you're willing to run down, cross the road and soak your feet in shallow water without embarrassment. We got ten tokens to use within the park and Nadia wasn't seen more in action than today. I suppose the whole town was there with us but it didn't feel overcrowded and checking in at most of the attractions available was more than we could wish for. The tractor ride was the best to say it humbly, I might just pause for a second to savour the view of my tight grip on the steering wheel taking us round the track skillfully. And I still don't hold a driving license!

When in Swanage we needn't look for an excuse for some fish and chips from the famous Fish Plaice. Oh, the fish and chips... we've been regular customers for as long as we can remember. There are queues outside the door but the reasonable wait is worth the consistently great old fashioned chips and proper chunks of delicately battered cod. There is plenty of seating inside and out with us always choosing the benches to enjoy the taste in the dazzling sun and noise of seagulls fighting. Just like this afternoon, we sat outside to see the sun touching the horizon contemplating renting the pedal boat next time we're here. I'd like to go back, like, right now.
