║today my way║

the one, ballet, daily events, ballerina, todaymyway.com

Is it a girl's or her mother's dream to spend time nearly flying around the ballroom so light and graceful in each pose only a handful of people will experience without much struggle? Some will even dedicate a life to it. Ballet classes as we know and encourage are a part of most under five female generation. The amount of pink sheer fabric produced in a year only compares to the amount of caffeine I could have consumed to this day if I was initiated early enough. It is a trend, a modern day normalcy that boys play tennis and girls dance. Mostly for fun and to wear the rose-coloured tutu without limits. Or with just about everything that comes handy. Every once in a while we ask Nadia if she would want to continue her adventure with the overly lit dance hall. Her answer has always been positive, her ballet pumps never so comfortable. I get it, she likes it and has a good time skipping hand in hand with her friends, I have no intention of separating her from the group. Yet as a parent I always look ahead, like beyond the third grade that's for sure. I believe an activity that makes your heart pumping blood at a dangerous speed will never make you feel otherwise especially if this eager heart gets addicted to it, is trained well and evenly encouraged. When fun becomes purpose, occasional turns into regular and a struggle calls for more practice, steadily and intentionally shifting conversations towards the future. Nothing too drastically pushed forward in time but reasonably distant to have a concept of the size of tutu we need to order next.

When fun meets purpose it produces dedication. Under the ballroom ceiling heavily lit in artificial light, girls skip in various directions, hold hands showing off their skills independently or with a helping professional hand. They're all ballerinas in their own eyes, they've all been selected through their own will and their parents' financial capability. They're equally spectacular. And sometimes it happens. The potential is released and each pirouette is the most important. Some will dedicate a life to it.

rain can be therapeutic, countryside, sheep, family, todaymyway.com
poland, spring, spring rain, family, rain is raining, todaymyway.com

She's a friend. Spectacular and pregnant recently. She's the one I miss to share knowledge over the arsenal of shoes with or choose the right shape of jeans to complement my legs overly discouraged from showing. I miss her even more when new menu is introduced at my favourite lounge as there's nothing like sharing a meal you'd not normally order on a Monday afternoon. But I do get to see her to insane extent while traipsing through dusty bumpy Polish streets, I get used to having her on my speed dial. She's responsible for all my large bills thanks to the roaming mode and I'm responsible for her cravings and feet bunions. But she doesn't mind, walks bravely and sweet, carrying the bundle of joy she'll call her son along with her.

The sky was sympathetic today, no excess heat, not even moderate wind so we set off dressed lightly and irresponsibly. Lives lived to the full and back. So we walked up and down local Ethnographic Park presenting a range of agricultural buildings from all over Silesia, enormous open-air museum dotted with cottages, barns and a farm of flock of sheep accompanying our footsteps as they were let roam free at some point called our names and provided a morning of physical exhaustion. Not only we discovered the amount of rain our coats can take but that walking together might easily become our next best thing. If only our paths weren't divided by the English channel. But with the baby on the way I'm hoping for more unpredictable gatherings and moments of fun. After my friend's had some sleep first of course. So naturally kids are on topic and babies never leave our thought. It is the season of our lives to be less appropriate among others rolling their eyes on the amount of onesies that get mentioned in our conversation. But it wasn't like that for a long time and I'm delighted for her happiness. And sleepless nights. But also for her hands full of sweet chubbiness.

It wasn't long enough to start cursing the rarely pleasing sky and hide under the old cottage roof just to be reminded that if it rained it won't hesitate to persist with its attitude. A warm coffee for me and a reasonably brewed tea for my friend felt just right. And a delicious piece of cheesecake Nadia helped me devour. Time stood still (I could tell I didn't take my watch with me) but also it was a moment that felt so sacred - us girls plopped down on beaten up wooden bench warming our knuckles on taupe porcelain. She's been initiated - to soon be running alone those street corners getting her thoughts right at sidewalk flower stands and stopping to get a doughnut or bottle of still water. She'll find her paths, her best shrubs of evergreen fences to come back to any given morning or afternoon. She'll like the time only a sight of a nearby lake will make her feel, she'll stop and stare at the budding trees and wriggling pair of cotton rich socks.

And on our way back to the car she skillfully operates, Nadia struggled to cope with the ever changing attitude of clouds. She left her overcoat at home trusting the sky with her five year old faithful heart not long before it decided to play around with everything in its power. I gave her my jacket leaving me only in my light white shirt but a child looking ridiculous in oversized garment is better than a frozen child with a gigantic fever first thing after coming home. We made it to the car, believe us or not and I was half expecting to hear nothing for the next hour or so due to experiencing the power of howling wind from each side. Shockingly, it didn't happen and I tick this time as the best day we could dream of or dress for or both.

My skin is on a fruit diet, mostly exotic, oddly shaped and named fruit I wouldn't mind blending with almond milk and raisins. And only one brand is continually determined to provide the vitamins it needs entwining with fragrance only Mother Nature could come up with in all her feminine glory. The Body Shop has served me on vacation and in my own bathroom, sending newsletters through my inbox of what to drool over next season or just what to indulge in without occasion, without an event or outing in mind. My personal favorites change proportionally to my skin demands and the brand's marketing campaigns bu the olives and grapefruit fragranced pots need not disappear from under the sink shelf or it will be too much stress to take on an empty stomach. I need that kind of relationship with my day to day essentials that no questions are asked and no amount of ingredients is talked over.

So today you have the opportunity to treat your skin to freshly picked peach and pink grapefruit essences. All organic, fair trade and not tested on animals. Is your bathroom prepared for this amount of goodness? In today's giveaway one lucky Today My Way reader will win Pink Grapefruit Shower Gel, Vineyard Peach Body Butter, Vineyard Peach Body Scrub and a Frosted Cranberry Bath Jelly in a glass jar.

poland, spring, blue park, awesome time, todaymyway.com
travel, spring in poland, two on the road, todaymyway.com

I didn't expect parks to be as awesome as they were in Poland. I did expect low temperatures and high demand for playground explorations but anything that has started poking their heads out and shout with colour, this was a pretty surprise. So pretty we only took our morning routine seriously before making all sorts of decisions not to be back too early for lunch. At this time of year Poland is your most unpredictable friend therefore you just have to love it even more.

So the week started chilled, like prepare your warmest and most knitted layers because the streets are long and benches are cold. And the sun is still locked somewhere between the German border and deep forests of Czech Republic. But we packed our companions in hats and gloves of many different wool blends that we did not complain much. And then it got reasonably enjoyable - hats got pulled off, knees got exposed to warm air through their holes and all was looking good. There were just the two of us for the most part of our stay and although we enjoyed moderate company of others, this was the best formula for mind cleansing and feet exhausting escapade. My time was entirely made of ice cold bottled tea and strolls through the parks with this blonde little head in tow. I had time to fill my eyes with the beauty of a place I once roamed single and unemployed or hand in hand with this bearded man on so many days I'm engrossed to even type (he was too unemployed so that you know our reasons to be so desperate to wander). We hit the many playgrounds we could find and bought sweet sugary snacks nobody was aware we called lunch. We were the team that only a cloudy sky could scare off. Our families headed to work each morning at the hour I barely even move half of the body, the house went totally on silent as we were getting dressed removing sleep from our eyes. Sweet lazy mornings with a big amount of layers and a quick look at the outdoor thermometer. Most days we were ready before 10 am, with the right attitude and enough wool content to get us through the day.

Our luggage allowance set limits on our time here too - if we couldn't take it home, it was no point confusing the brain, no point drooling over object that will get discarded at the airport. Even if it's most sought after and pretty. I liked it a lot. I had no intention to purchase even though there is a list of what we ought to get from Poland each year that's beyond our grasp in England. You know, things like face masks I buy in bulk or important medication English doctors don't trust; Polish books with the right dose of eloquence and even more with just pictures only a five year old can appreciate. We searched none of these and it felt good (I may soon regret not getting into the lingerie department of Triumph's discounted collection but nobody will make me undress of all the layers I religiously put on that morning together with a thin coat of body butter from last night's bath that is).

I felt like a tourist that streets are recognized to an extent but discovered all over again. Because this town is thriving - buildings get knocked down but equally grow back in bricks; parks are dotted in colourful jackets going down the slides with their mums silently watching over. Or grandmas. Lots of them - the most wonderful free labour of love, pairs of retired arms this bunch of toddlers fall into (literally). I sat and not only watched this carefree girl of mine befriending squirrels and random kids half her age and height but was entwined with the peace I'm so used to at home. Taking all in without looking at the watch slightly too big for my fifth-grade girl's wrists - this made my entire stay. On the weekend though mums thrived as the best hosts - there were chats and endless gestures of love and affection, tons of home made calories and bought specialties so we all felt we were exposed to many wonders. On the weekend there were family gatherings and play dates and telephone conversations with Damian who missed his girls a lot. It was great. This time was superior even though Nadia had a mild cold and put her sneezing lessons in practice to avoid accidents.

And there were stories told each night as we cuddled together in bed of a reasonable comfort chasing shadows unfamiliar with the lights out. Sweet socked feet finding the best spot promising restful sleep and imagination playing games with our memory told in quick and chaotic sentences at the table the next morning. We girls know the amount of a good time we can have. And will not hesitate to repeat it anytime we can.

small person, little girl, rainy day, thoughts on things, mama in me, todaymyway.com

She's a small girl with big imagination. She's asking and more than often comes up with her own explanation which in its simplicity is pretty much correct. We don't argue although silly as it sounds, I wait for holding an argument with her. Over major thing or just something enough encouraging not to be in the wrong. I can picture it now - she would frown and even hang her shoulders down, her nose all scrunched. And I'd kiss the nose so she would try to jump away and avoid making up unless it's her on top. Stubborn piece of blonde hair she is. And I'd never continue to wind her up, I'd give right in, she'd smile or throw her arms around me and plop her wet lips on my forehead and we could just stay like that forever. Or till dinner time.

She loves listening to stories about when she was a baby or big enough to escape the room but not quite quick to hide. I make sure to tell her the tiniest of details so she can put the pieces together and make it real in her sweet head. She smiles and interrupts with questions or her version of events. It certainly was this way but I don't entirely mind if she adds bits to the story. Her story. The other weekend night we sat plopped together on the sofa watching more of what we could already tell with eyes closed and she told me her dream. These are pretty rad, guys. Like worlds moving places and exciting meets frightening but then you can always wake up to mummy's flock of caramel hair or daddy's bristly facial misconception. Then I told her one of mine. We craved a story as we just wouldn't be sitting side by side and staring at the dazzling light even if Rapunzel was any prettier. We walked with daddy holding hands and removing hair from our faces in the howling wind while being stopped by a smile of a pretty doll looking at us from the store window. Nadia smiled looking ahead of me, probably bursting slowly inside at guessing who I was talking about. It was her, big blue eyes and a button of a nose wanting to be brought home with us. Yes, I was gently corrected by her - I did carry her in my belly once but she was so pleased knowing her life could be so different and she'd still be with us anyway, we'd find a way to bring her home, toss with kisses and get asked to tidy up her toys because she's busy drawing. Like meeting deadlines producing art. Next one, mummy. Oh, what a night - to be dreaming the many dreams she's expecting and stories she's not enough of. So we were at grandparents' house and sat in the small television room, all relaxed, some of us bathed and creamed soaking up the atmosphere. Then I started brushing her hair which began to glow and grow at the same time. Nadia's eyes widened -- what images crossed her mind I can only guess. It grew and grew, suddenly there was no room to hold it so grandma opened the window and let it fell on the street entwining the whole town with it. There was something magical about the hair, there was... 'Bees and flies in it' - she responded and I agreed with glee.

This life, our life I like thinking is made of moments I never wanna forget. In place of constant happiness I'd choose a challenge and motherhood is one that intentionally builds up on happiness in the company of a small person. Enjoy the spring, friends! x

green windowsill, family fun, spring, todaymyway.com
plants, herbs, spring activities, garden, todaymyway.com
Some plants to be considered beautiful and edible need to look like weed or grass at some point. But never be tempted to treat it like weed, love the taste it will enhance from the infancy of seed and it eventually be worth the wait, worth the kitchen spatula we used to plant it. There's also a challenge yet not realized -- the pot will not hold the amount of goodness, bone china will either burst of joy or under raw strength of a plant determined to grow. Fine with us, there are plenty of re-potting opportunities and the space has never been so accessible (as life was greatly chaotic a couple of years ago when this beauty of a girl I'm raising could disappear under layers of toys, her most enjoyable activity was to jump on the windowsill (with securely locked windows) and take lead in cheering all games neighborhood children were involved into. Now, there is just not enough head room to be prancing around the sunlit space).

Our garden is growing. Not like crazy and I have finally accepted that it just isn't going to happen in a day but we're happily halfway there, one leaf at a time, deeper shade of green in a matter of weeks in anticipation of a salad or addition to sandwich. I'm a herbivore in my guts and will not hesitate to make it obvious. Nadia had fun planting but was even more enthusiastic to make her creation complete -- once the herb decided to poke its fine necks out, we knew some personalization was in order and green crayons told the full story. Everything we spend time and thought on needs recognition and a hand of a five year old has just the right amount of energy. The kind of hand that will make any object pretty. She has the skills, the day would be lost without working with pens and scissors. But this time she focused on words and specific shapes. And I did on documenting it. x

traveling with little else, travel, spring, style, todaymyway.com

I'm sure if you asked me to plan a trip way ahead, I would most certainly think of tons of other things before actually getting the excursion planned and packed with bags left by the front door. So no point doing it, really. You see, I put together a backpack of a week of necessities in one afternoon flat, sometimes quicker. While doing other things on top of that, I may add so really it is a skill that saves lives (and marriages sometimes). Once I have weather forecast and potential escapades figured out, I am ready to ride my closet. This is not a random post guys, I have packed this lot in a blink of an eye and will see you again in less than a 200 page novel takes to read and talk through. Like Hey Natalie Jean, maybe? We're off to see our family in Poland just in time for seasons changing and leaving big impact on my poor low-temperature handling abilities. I've got no idea what we would be doing but since I'm only traveling with Nadia - playgrounds and sweet shops are on the list. No other stores are allowed to tempt my zero check-in luggage allowance therefore I'm suspecting extra few pounds allocated near my hips. There will not be internet present so hold on tight to the archive section while we're away. Happy spring, friends!

my favourite duo, family, the cuteness files, todaymyway.com

Nadia was chewing a handful of candy leaving two of the jawbreakers untouched. I asked her why she did not want them. 'They're not yummy' she answered.

Going up the hill from school we got a bit tired from walking. Me: How nice it would be to have a pair of wings right now. Nadia: But those would get tired too, mummy. Good point, babe.

Nadia desperately wants to wear glasses just like some girls at school and both of her cousins. So one afternoon on our way home from school a tiny piece of dust got into her eye and once we wiped it off, she said reproachfully: If I had glasses it wouldn't have happened.

When Nadia was coming down with a cold but was still going to school we tried to teach her how to sneeze and avoid accidents. 'When you're about to sneeze, at making 'Aaahhh' is the right time to take handkerchief out because when it comes to 'Chu!!' it's generally too late.'

I love attending parent's evenings and flipping through pages documenting Nadia's school days, daily highlights, progress in learning. Here are some questions the teacher asked and her sweet answers:
►► What do you do to relax? I play games with my daddy on the x-box.
►► What's healthy food? Oranges. (I love that one!)
►► What would you like to get better at? Getting dressed for P.E.
►► What do you need to do with the basket full of shopping? You need to scan it and then pay and then you can go home.
►► What would you hide in a treasure chest? Chocolate.

spring at home, on the floor, great time, learning, todaymyway.com

Evenings like these have happened to us throughout each winter, let it be loved and short season or long to the point of hating half of my closet - we've always spent days on the floor. It was our playground, our dry land, a place where anything could work - leisure-wise the most. This carpet is far from exciting in its decorative form but it did not matter on any day we had plans to use it wisely or completely opposite. Our space is small, like lazily small as we haven't tried the tricks of using mirrors or paint to visually stretch it out and the floor seems to be the biggest feature therefore it holds more than any clean surface available. Bricks, lines of cars, board games seem to live to their full potential here only. They do their best, show the truest and most painful nature once stepped on. It's the temporary home to Lego statues and a foster house to drawings that have no permission past the room. But board games with their millionth and therefore so important part are dotting this floor constantly. Nadia is old enough to know and play by the rules each box comes with but all that stubborn and independent enough to refuse to win the manufacturer's way. So we go along with the kind of imagination that finds you unprepared, beats you up just when you were thinking you've been winning and leaves you disorientated near the start even though you've reached halfway on the board. You're also asked to choose a character for the game - forget the pawns and cogs - reach for the nicest toy you can because imitating its voice and silly moves is always a good idea.

This particular game is called Mushroom Picking and as seen among less or more comfortable positions players travel around the board collecting mushrooms and meeting a variety of adventures. The best way of achieving this fast (according to Nadia) is to pick as many mushrooms as the hamper holds (not recommended for people with easily upset stomachs) and race to the finish line. It's nearly impossible to convince her some mushrooms are to look at only but if she is to win she will reap all the benefits along the way too. Still a way to learn and have fun while at it. And then we felt extra ambitious and drew faces, dragons and pandas.
