I love my auntie's duties. Like squishing my nephews' cheeks whenever I feel the need of doing so or making funny faces for hilariously long my face creams are horrified with. I'm fun to scrap knees with kind of aunt and will not let go of this title. I can make a toddler let a really laud belly laugh out and teach him how to roll his tongue to create a tube. Very important skill when you're four, I tell you. I will fail on purpose and pretend I don't know how two-wheel scooter works. Anything that is more than significant in busy lives of making memories through facing every day challenges. Climbing sidewalks and staying atop is one of them.

This time the mountain was higher than expected, the views satisfying enough, add people I'm more than happy to roll down the Hengistbury Head hill with when needed and bank holiday Monday could be engraved on my tombstone. It was that good. Plus the wind in exchange of rain made it work in terms of entertainment. Sometimes no object than a plain ribbon of road is all that promises time well spent. The things you want to see quicker than the others therefore you run ahead in excitement is what provides the biggest fun. Once you've seen it, you run back and the fun persists if not grows twice your shoe size. Then there are those abandoned rocks and sticks one can use as swords or cellphones to get through to more civilized areas. There's nothing to stop kids from believing it was made for them, left at arm's reach and ready to bring home if only pockets were made big enough for growing collections. And we take every rock, grain of sand very seriously.

I am a firm believer that what we really need at any given time can be found within a mile radius from us. Or just plain straight ahead and right behind if we only look curiously enough to invite it in. Equally I'd let kids roam free without distracting them with toys as they know better the pressures from getting a hold of some to attract the obvious and annoying mantra - you insisted on bringing it with us so you ride it/kick it/carry it till the world ends.

The walk back to the car was interesting too. Some of us had enough energy to make it, some thought heading the same way twice seemed a little too eccentric. And at the greater speed? Hilarious. So Damian and his brother headed to the car first to be there and ready for the parking officer and I volunteered for a snail speed walk with Nadia and her older cousin asking me to pick him up at least every two breaths in. I wasn't ready for such workout so we walked not paying attention to speed and the long way ahead, we used each bench dotted along the uninviting path to finally reach our destination. We made it without being picked up therefore the sticks and rocks made it with us. Teamwork, you know. Even if it meant asking who could take the wider step. Forward, that is.

black-and-white, today-my-way-party-girl

girl-playing-football, kids-birthday-party, party-hall

Not all women in my family are gifted with blonde locks, not all have sky in their eyes. In fact, it didn't happen once. In fact, my body was determined to shift from the dark hair, black eye trend and introduced this thick golden chop of hair naughtily covering the big portion of the turquoise in her pupils on purpose. I predict a change was needed in terms of being properly visible on photographs or maybe this one time if it was going to be a Libra, let her looks soften it a bit. Because Libras... with all respect and patience I extend towards Libras, the life with one (or two as I happen to land with) is just a roller-coaster ride without a handle. It is mornings of plain excitement out of random things and evenings full to the brim with unexpected. The balance rarely happens and understanding it is my way of survival. I could easily copy and paste any reliable online source describing her zodiac - sweet and gentle, trying to please others mixed and shaken with this stubbornness every time a decision is called for. The good natured element dissolves under changeable and impatient only a mother could accept. And out of head first attitude Nadia has been blessed with, there is the one all Libras are famous for. The one they live off of gracefully and exceptionally unaware of happening - the charm they naturally force on everybody never wears off or if it does, there's no visual evidence of it. I call it her congenital magic power that together with hair of a Disney princess and attitude of a adventure seeker makes her a great study example. And a great watch while interacting with others. Boys. She's sociable, she's a little wild. She gives no chance to rest when there's this urge to go for something immediately. Head first, remember? She's been raised among two boys after all so all that is associated with their world has grown into her like nothing comparable. Sudden bursts of laughter, climbing unusual surfaces while walking down the street, scratching elbows and not dropping a tear ties her up strongly with the opposite ground. You'd call her tomboy, I'll settle on an even representation of both worlds - a wild spirit in pink ballerinas. And a headband.

So there is this party happening she was invited to as 25 other children from her class. There is an inflatable slide to keep the lot on their bare feet, a space wide open and inviting. And here she is playing football with the boys and telling jokes other girls roll their eyes at. She's this funny, bright ball of unkempt hair flying across the room taking anyone willing to cause chaos along with her. The first photo is showing the essence of the girl I'm so happy to lock eyes with - a young Brigitte Bardot in her prime, flamboyant style - sweet and playful, kicking her shoes off and choosing this black lacy number over a pink tutu I prepared for her that afternoon. When raising a child I believe it is crucial to think about the opposite sex situation. She has years until serious discoveries yet we parents shouldn't forget things happen quickly. Like I noticed she's figured out she needed a bra when she was three and they didn't do bras her size so ugh, we spent half terms on searching for the most reliable sports top to settle with. Lipstick and fuchsia nail varnish has been demanded alongside potty training sessions! I am here to witness, to guide and be gentle while at it. I'd rather talk then issue orders. I'm grateful to have a child. A daughter. A Libra. A shaping personality that will only thrive under my encouragement. This is the extent of a parenthood - to see an adult beyond a child. And I'm so interested in the adult she's becoming.

new-season-kids-clothes-todaymyway

new-season-summer-clothes-children-clothes-vertbaudet
Vertbaudet mixed with Boden and sprinkled with H&M rubber boots
Every season before 2015 and most definitely after 2009 those wardrobe sliding door would never entirely shut. You'd push and tuck but the amount of frills and pleats did stick out hysterically which with sliding door can look as ridiculous as one wants to see it. School days were far ahead, brochures with kids clothing lines kept landing on our doorstep waiting for the first opportunity to get through the dispatch process so that Nadia not only was blessed with a closet of number of items she's still struggling to count to in Reception class but the opportunities to rotate each and every piece seemed to grow with days.

Fast forward to spring 2015 (well, we call it spring in the lack of a better word but be warned -- it doesn't exist as such) and this space that used to teamed up with overabundance, it now is not entertaining: a worn-out fluffy cardigan and a size bigger zip up because it was on sale and who would let it slip away when everybody knows children grow without asking for permission. Three skirts that still cover the obvious but soon there will not be much left to get away with. Even accompanied with leggins. A couple of last year's T-shirts and just enough well fitted girlie tops anything she wishes could go with. It is that limited, it is that thin. But rather than feel sad and unexcited about it, I decided to build up expectations winter wardrobe could never dream of fulfilling. Out of school uniform and in with the first sunshine we'll find ourselves in the process of loving her closet again before hibernating in grey and blue of Year 1. Lots of colour and maybe a few ruffles to feel festive enough. We've already memorized codes of special offers and filled a couple of electronic shopping baskets already so that you know it's worth checking this space for updates ;).

Happy day, friends!

flowers blossoming, flowerpot in spring, spring garden

empty space, empty garden, spring garden, friendly garden

Poland means so many different things to me, you wouldn't believe, if I started right now I'd talk with no end so I'll spare you longer paragraphs. Above all Poland means green grass, lots of grass and fields, trees that promise shadows and are short of poise in the lack of regular trimming. Poland smells of fruit and dust, rain and cigarette smoke. It's overwhelming how many senses it activates. And there is a garden plopped tightly between acres of fences and others preserving their green space within gray lungs of a big town. It belongs to my in-laws and all the mini beasts one butterfly net couldn't hold at a time. For the first time discovered in its most vulnerable state, with barely a leaf seducing the eye. I loved it nonetheless. I loved it even more on days full of sunny spells only a gardening enthusiast in training would appreciate bringing those empty aisles to life with my imagination (what I still need to make time for is purchasing a pair of green rubber boots. Straw summer hat is simply not enough). What a shock to Nadia to find her favourite hiding spots open to view but soon she learned a steady rhythm of how to familiarize with the monochromatic landscape. You can still hide if those who seek are willing to try harder, if you happen to slump off of the wooden log dividing the plots while running - no damage is done, no flower head will curse you in silence and grandpa won't lift his arms up to the air in horror. Well, he never does it anyway.

Every afternoon back home the fun persisted. Nadia definitely made this place hers - she knew what to expect from certain behavior and how loud the door is allowed to get shut but also all the mess that got shoveled under the bed for the next day's best play was purposefully overlooked by grandma. Because finally there was a motion in slow paced lives of her grandparents, there were accidents happening, sugary drink spills and all kinds of unusual patterns of dirty hands on the walls made appearance. It was all awaited. You can even find Nadia's old toothbrush somewhere in the bathroom from when she insisted on brushing her developing teeth as grandma declined to part with it. Memories in objects, not always re-usable. Damian phoned us regularly but not overwhelmingly often, we had a deal of a breathing space. We lived for those moments like we lived for mum's pork chops. Soon the sun will focus on what has overwhelmed the eyes with emptiness and lack of shade. Soon we will experience it together with fresh produce falling to our hands eaten washed or deliberately not.

Existential questions, part one. So you've drank your latte, mocha or herbal tea, you've even licked the sweet foam from the teaspoon and technically are ready to leave. But you want to stay longer, maybe read an article in stained newspaper lying around and not attracting anybody or just stare out the window across the street and catch a glimpse of the good looking guy serving muffins and fresh patè. You're comfortable and warm, the speaker is filling the ears with dated sound so you can still formulate a thought and the noise of clattering crockery is not too overwhelming. It's still too early for second coffee or glass of water, you didn't really come here to digest anyway. So when do you leave? Is there general policy on how much time a genuine coffee enthusiast is allowed to claim in a café? How much time does one order cover?

Lock your plants, hide their green stems from my sight. Remove soil from the windowsill I can easily track. My green thumb has activated, I find the meaning of life in each plant kept alive so recently I've been drawn to flowerpots that are familiar or totally new to me waiting for the right opportunity to snap a sample, hide in a tissue I got with my cup of tea, thank you very much. And leave with a grin on my face only a witch mother could sport without being questioned. Muahaha!

The amount of caffeine in my system wasn't trackable until now. It was easier to find an infection rather than a trace of something so insanely delicious I'm horrified to learn its energetic powers so late.

I do not normally get crazy over a plate of pancakes. Overly excited over a powdered sugar coating the triple stacked creation with a strawberry on top. Yet picture me fighting with the crispy edge and a Greek yoghurt leaving clues in the corner of my mouth. Once a week I contribute to the local buttermilk supply and have a feeling I will not let go easily.

The strength I defend a couple of tears in my most comfortable jeans with cannot compare to anything known to a hardly stylish girl. Because I own those holes I will make a priority to exaggerate their importance in my life.

Have a great weekend, friends and a happy May to you! x

the one, ballet, daily events, ballerina, todaymyway.com

Is it a girl's or her mother's dream to spend time nearly flying around the ballroom so light and graceful in each pose only a handful of people will experience without much struggle? Some will even dedicate a life to it. Ballet classes as we know and encourage are a part of most under five female generation. The amount of pink sheer fabric produced in a year only compares to the amount of caffeine I could have consumed to this day if I was initiated early enough. It is a trend, a modern day normalcy that boys play tennis and girls dance. Mostly for fun and to wear the rose-coloured tutu without limits. Or with just about everything that comes handy. Every once in a while we ask Nadia if she would want to continue her adventure with the overly lit dance hall. Her answer has always been positive, her ballet pumps never so comfortable. I get it, she likes it and has a good time skipping hand in hand with her friends, I have no intention of separating her from the group. Yet as a parent I always look ahead, like beyond the third grade that's for sure. I believe an activity that makes your heart pumping blood at a dangerous speed will never make you feel otherwise especially if this eager heart gets addicted to it, is trained well and evenly encouraged. When fun becomes purpose, occasional turns into regular and a struggle calls for more practice, steadily and intentionally shifting conversations towards the future. Nothing too drastically pushed forward in time but reasonably distant to have a concept of the size of tutu we need to order next.

When fun meets purpose it produces dedication. Under the ballroom ceiling heavily lit in artificial light, girls skip in various directions, hold hands showing off their skills independently or with a helping professional hand. They're all ballerinas in their own eyes, they've all been selected through their own will and their parents' financial capability. They're equally spectacular. And sometimes it happens. The potential is released and each pirouette is the most important. Some will dedicate a life to it.

poland, spring, spring rain, family, rain is raining, todaymyway.com

She's a friend. Spectacular and pregnant recently. She's the one I miss to share knowledge over the arsenal of shoes with or choose the right shape of jeans to complement my legs overly discouraged from showing. I miss her even more when new menu is introduced at my favourite lounge as there's nothing like sharing a meal you'd not normally order on a Monday afternoon. But I do get to see her to insane extent while traipsing through dusty bumpy Polish streets, I get used to having her on my speed dial. She's responsible for all my large bills thanks to the roaming mode and I'm responsible for her cravings and feet bunions. But she doesn't mind, walks bravely and sweet, carrying the bundle of joy she'll call her son along with her.

The sky was sympathetic today, no excess heat, not even moderate wind so we set off dressed lightly and irresponsibly. Lives lived to the full and back. So we walked up and down local Ethnographic Park presenting a range of agricultural buildings from all over Silesia, enormous open-air museum dotted with cottages, barns and a farm of flock of sheep accompanying our footsteps as they were let roam free at some point called our names and provided a morning of physical exhaustion. Not only we discovered the amount of rain our coats can take but that walking together might easily become our next best thing. If only our paths weren't divided by the English channel. But with the baby on the way I'm hoping for more unpredictable gatherings and moments of fun. After my friend's had some sleep first of course. So naturally kids are on topic and babies never leave our thought. It is the season of our lives to be less appropriate among others rolling their eyes on the amount of onesies that get mentioned in our conversation. But it wasn't like that for a long time and I'm delighted for her happiness. And sleepless nights. But also for her hands full of sweet chubbiness.

It wasn't long enough to start cursing the rarely pleasing sky and hide under the old cottage roof just to be reminded that if it rained it won't hesitate to persist with its attitude. A warm coffee for me and a reasonably brewed tea for my friend felt just right. And a delicious piece of cheesecake Nadia helped me devour. Time stood still (I could tell I didn't take my watch with me) but also it was a moment that felt so sacred - us girls plopped down on beaten up wooden bench warming our knuckles on taupe porcelain. She's been initiated - to soon be running alone those street corners getting her thoughts right at sidewalk flower stands and stopping to get a doughnut or bottle of still water. She'll find her paths, her best shrubs of evergreen fences to come back to any given morning or afternoon. She'll like the time only a sight of a nearby lake will make her feel, she'll stop and stare at the budding trees and wriggling pair of cotton rich socks.

And on our way back to the car she skillfully operates, Nadia struggled to cope with the ever changing attitude of clouds. She left her overcoat at home trusting the sky with her five year old faithful heart not long before it decided to play around with everything in its power. I gave her my jacket leaving me only in my light white shirt but a child looking ridiculous in oversized garment is better than a frozen child with a gigantic fever first thing after coming home. We made it to the car, believe us or not and I was half expecting to hear nothing for the next hour or so due to experiencing the power of howling wind from each side. Shockingly, it didn't happen and I tick this time as the best day we could dream of or dress for or both.
