This is in fact an evidence of our personal journey through countless attempts to hobble blonde curls that has never stayed the same at any given time. It started with locks of springs that once brushed were still far from neatly presented. As time flew by Nadia's hair started to straighten up creating more of a 'hay-do' but instead of daydreaming of fancy hairdos and braids I turned to professionals - every two to three months blonde hair got a three-dimensional cut so it created volume without looking untidy. I wanted to prevent split ends but the regular trimming also resulted in more shapely pony tail (or pig tails). However since Nadia's hair didn't really have time to grow between cuts, without guilt I decided to give scissors a rest, let's say at least four months until her hair is completely arrangeable without hundreds of hair clips and hair bands to keep it in place. Allowing it to stay healthy by applying a drop of moisturizing conditioner on its ends she enjoys tidy and fairly frizzy-less result.
I can see many girls Nadia's age whose hair is short and kept asking myself if choosing regular trimming over letting it grow just like Rapunzel's is a way for less tangled, more flatter streaks. In Poland girls' hair is usually kept untouched until their first communion when all of them want to look like princesses and nobody ever thinks to cut it off before then. No denying my girl has inherited her dad's thick and quick-growing locks with more shades on a golden palette than nature can hold. Washing it less frequently when she is ill or having a cold doesn't make it look less luscious. In fact you wouldn't notice the difference between freshly washed locks and a four day break in shaking shampoo bottle. Imagine mummy's greasy hair after three days...
As of now Nadia's hair is slowly finding its right direction with regular brushing and two to three washes per week using a gentle shampoo. Whatever her hair feels like it always makes for pretty photos.
I'm asking mamas out there - how do you manage your dolls' hair? What are your swear-by routines to retain healthy, pretty looking locks for your daughters? I'm anxious to find out.
